Bottom Line

The attractively designed, modern spa featuring mosaic tile, inlaid local stones and light wood is the main attraction of this 48-room hotel, set in the rolling Umbrian hills a 20-minute drive from Perugia. The lobby and rooms are clean and well-maintained, if a bit outdated aesthetically speaking. The property is popular in particular with tourists seeking to enjoy the agricultural and outdoor options of the surrounding area; the hotel provides mountain bikes for exploring, and also has on-site tennis courts in addition to exercise classes. Rooms and suites are of average size and not particularly fancy, but they're clean and some have charming details such as exposed wood beam ceilings and antique furniture.

Scene

A villa-like hotel laid out on a hillside overlooking the Umbrian countryside

Homey, if simple, rooms have some charming details, while the lobby is more modern and has slightly corporate furniture. The vistas from the lobby and outdoor spaces, including the ample patio and the pool, are the real attraction here; at night the town of Assisi is visible from the grounds, which are particularly appealing when the outdoor pool is lit. Clusters of rooms and the spa are joined by tidy brick walkways. Because of the convenient location near the pastoral and cultural attractions of Umbria, including Perugia, Assisi, and Orvieto, it is a popular destination for tourists.

Location

On a hillside in a bucolic setting amongst farms and fields

The hotel sits atop a hill in a lanscape of gently sloping fields and is easily accessible by car from Perugia (20 minutes). The hotel provides shuttle service to and from the Perugia airport for a fee (guests must book in advance). Several good restaurants are located a five-minute drive from the property in the nearby town of Torgiano.

Rooms

Simple, clean rooms accented with dark wood furnishings and slightly outdated bathrooms

Some rooms have views; all have air-conditioning units, which can be loud, and small flat-screen TVs. Many rooms open directly onto an outdoor patio. The Italian country decor varies between rooms, but some rooms have exposed wood beam ceilings, distressed walls in the villa style, and antique furniture. Access to the spa and and pools is included in the room price.

Features

Beautifully designed pools are the star elements of the pretty, modestly sized spa

The heated pool spans both an indoor and outdoor area; there is an outdoor unheated one as well. Both overlook a spectacular vista of the surrounding rolling hills. In the wet and dry saunas, which are beautifully constructed but tiny, with room only for a few people at a time, nudity is theoretically discouraged but occasionally tolerated, according to some guests. There is a small gym with a few exercise machines and free weights. The on-site restaurant has received mixed reviews; there are several good restaurants a few kilometers away in nearby Torgiano.
