About an hour's drive from Siena, the hotel sits on a hilltop with gorgeous views of the Tuscan landscape and Montepulciano. A former villa, the property was built in 1800 and was inhabited by a noble family of Montepulciano until the mid-1900s. Now it is a resort known for its dramatic spa with an indoor pool and two outdoor pools. Rooms are classically elegant, breakfast is free, and there is a fitness center on-site.
Scene
Historic villa turned spa resort
Spa lovers and wine enthusiasts will find this hotel convenient for visiting vineyards and perfect for relaxing after a day touring. During the summer, two pools are a welcome relief on hot days. Ancient cypress trees and flower-filled wine barrels surround the entryway to the original stone and brick villa. Inside, the decor is modern with a long curved wood reception desk and white club chairs framed by peach walls. The annex building with additional rooms has a modern exterior, accented with glass and is about a 10-minute walk from the main building. The restaurant, La Corte di Bacco, specializes in traditional cuisine, using local extra virgin olive oil and wine. The atmosphere is relaxed and a touch romantic.
Location
A base to explore Tuscany and Umbria
The hotel is 60 miles from Florence and 43 miles from the airport in Perugia. Many charming villages, historic towns, and vineyards in Tuscany and Umbria can be explored from here by car. On foot, it's a 20-minute walk to the restaurants and shops in the Renaissance village of Montepulciano; a car is recommended as the best way to explore.
Rooms
Traditionally elegant rooms
Each room, whether Classic, Deluxe, Junior Suite, or apartment has different color schemes, furnishings, and accessories. All are traditionally elegant in style and have writing desks, large wardrobes, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. Some have Murano chandeliers and many have vaulted ceilings framed with wood beams. Bathrooms are a nice size, outfitted with modern fixtures, though the annex rooms have a small shower "pod" that can be tricky to use. The Nido D'Amore (Love nest) room has a whirlpool tub in the middle of the room.
