Bottom Line

Although Cieloverde Camping Village's beachfront pine wood setting, complete with free-roaming deer and sheep, may seem ideal for a romantic or intimate getaway, in reality the massive property's population can breach the thousands when all 1,200 of its impressively modern bungalows, cabin, and motor homes are booked -- making for a crowded and noisy holiday. However, with its wide array of activities and kid-friendly features, the affordable village is ideal for families looking for a fun, social, and no-fuss holiday. While most of anything you need is available on-site, there’s no pool and Wi-Fi service is only available in a small central area for a fee.

Scene

Clean and modern with a true village-like vibe

Cieloverde Camping Village is huge. So huge that its camping area has been divided into 12 different areas, all named after ancient Etruscan cities. Each area hosts a different combination of camping units and features central public services like toilets and showers. The property is laid out sort of like a butterfly, with the wings housing camping areas, the body formed by parking lots and entertainment spaces, and the head comprised of restaurants, bars, shops, and a few other points of interest. The entire village is located within a beautiful and aromatic pine forest with free-roaming animals like deer and sheep. Keep in mind that the property can accommodate populations larger than some countryside villages, so there is a lack of privacy. There’s also a large number of children running around. While all of this works to create a charming camp setting, especially with the sea nearby, the wooded environment also breeds a high number of insects, particularly "singing" cicadas in the summertime and pesky mosquitoes. The public spaces are basic, but all facilities are clean and surprisingly contemporary.

Location

Pine forest location near the sea and close to Grosseto proper

Set inside an aromatic pine forest with direct access to the sea, Cieloverde Camping Village is just a 15-minute drive east to Grosseto. While it is not convenient on foot to anything beyond the fine sands and blue waters of the Tyrrhenian coast, there is a public bus stop just outside the village that runs to/from the Grosseto train station and city. The closest airport is in Grosseto as well.

Rooms

Clean and contemporary units, most with air-conditioning and kitchenettes

A collection of bungalows, caravans, mobile homes, and RV bays make up the 1,200 camping units within Cieloverde Camping Village. All spaces are clean and contemporary, coming with private toilets and showers -- except caravans (and tented camps), which still rely on public facilities. All bungalows and mobile homes have air-conditioning, mosquito nets, bedding, and flat-screen TVs. They are also equipped with kitchenettes, including cutlery and dishes, and have hot and cold running water. However, none of the bungalows or mobile homes come with towels or kitchen linens.Caravans, the smallest and simplest lodging in the village, do not have running water or air-conditioning, but still come with mini-fridges and kitchenettes. Mobile homes are the most basic lodging and include running water. Bungalows, ranging from regular to Charme & Quality to Bungalow Plus, all have a slightly more upbeat, colorful interior style with higher-quality decor accents. Bungalow Plus units also have a larger apartment-style layout with dishwashers, microwaves, and full-sized refrigerators.

Features

As equipped as a small town, but no pool and limited Wi-Fi service

With features catering to almost every need or want, there’s hardly a reason to leave the property. From a post office to hair salon to pharmacy and large full-service grocery store, Cieloverde Camping Village really feels like a small self-sufficient town. It's even got a rustic outdoor chapel area for Sunday services. The only thing missing is a pool, and the Wi-Fi area is rather limited. There are many shaded public areas like the playgrounds, dance floors, and dining spots. Entertainment is organized by the camping village and has everything from live shows to dances and outdoor movie screenings. And since the village is set in nature, sightings of deer, sheep, and other free-roaming animals are common -- you can even arrange to join a guided photo safari. An outdoor covered game area with vending machines has a few air hockey and pool tables. A continually circulating free train shuttle connects all the areas of the village from the road to the beach to the campsites. A few different dining options are available as well, including the main restaurant with outdoor gazebo seating, a self-service pizzeria, and an international steakhouse.

Physical Activities

Wide selection of sports-based activities, including a tree-line adventure course

Great for guests who enjoy being active, Cieloverde Camping Village has a plethora of on-site activities for both adults and children, the most unique being an eco-friendly tree-line obstacle course with various difficulty levels. Built within the natural pine woods, AlberoVivo Adventure Park is filled with several paths of cables, platforms, and ropes. There are spaces for traditional team sports like volleyball, basketball, and soccer as well. The village also has tennis courts, horse stables, and bikes for rent that guests can ride along the paved bike path. Water-based activities include a surf school, windsurfing, and kitesurfing, taking place off the fine sand beaches behind the village.
