Not directly on the beach
No on-site spa or restaurant
If Villa Del Mar were directly on the beach, its nightly rates would likely triple. But because the 48-room property is located across the street from Grace Bay, it’s one of Provo’s most affordable upscale options. Though it doesn’t have many of the bells and whistles of its larger neighbors, like an on-site restaurant or spa, Villa Del Mar has spacious apartment-style rooms with full kitchens, two beautiful pools, and beach access for guests. It’s also within walking distance of shops, bars, and restaurants, and offers free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Travelers who absolutely must be on the beach should check out Point Grace, which has a similar ambience, more amenities, and pricier nightly rates.
Scene
A quiet upscale option, across the street from the beach
Villa Del Mar has a quieter atmosphere than many of its beachfront neighbors. With only 48 rooms, the hotel never has too many guests, even at full capacity. This is evident around the hotel’s two gorgeous pools — you won’t find any chair saving tactics going on here, as there are plenty of chairs for everyone. The majority of guests at Villa Del Mar are adults. Children are welcome, and we saw a few during our visit, but there isn’t much for them to do here. Some families may find the atmosphere a bit too quiet for rambunctious kids. Neighboring Ocean Club West is definitely a more kid-friendly option. Villa Del Mar’s lobby is located at the front entrance of the property, behind the circular driveway. With its travertine floors and wicker arm chairs, it looks a bit like an upscale office space. The lobby is typically only used for check-ins and check-outs, so there’s never much going on here during the day.
Location
Within walking distance of downtown Providenciales, near shops, bars, restaurants, and the beach
Villa Del Mar is located on a quiet street directly behind Grace Bay Beach. Its neighbors include time-share property Ocean Club West, and the ritzy Grace Bay Club. In fact, Villa Del Mar guests must walk through Grace Bay Club’s grounds in order to access the beach. Besides not being directly on the sand, Villa Del Mar has one of the best locations in Provo. It’s within walking distance of downtown shops, bars, restaurants, and even a large grocery store. Additionally, the hotel is a 20-minute drive from Providenciales International Airport.
Rooms
Large apartment-style units with tasteful, if bland, decor
While we wouldn’t describe Villa Del Mar’s rooms as glamorous, they certainly have broad appeal. Beige walls, travertine floors, granite counter tops, and stainless steel appliances have a timeless upscale feel, even if they lack wow factor. Tommy Bahama furnishings add a hint of island flair without being tacky, and framed seashell artwork enhances the beachy theme. In our opinion, rooms are a bit bare, but some travelers may find the simplicity appealing. Villa Del Mar has studio-style rooms with kitchenettes, as well as one-, two-, and tree-bedroom apartment style units with full kitchens, living rooms, and in-unit laundry. Bathrooms have deep soaking tubs and separate walk-in shower stalls. All rooms have private outdoor patios or balconies, which overlook the hotel’s pools or back parking lot. Some of the three-bedroom penthouses have partial ocean views — if you squint.
Features
Two beautiful pools and free Wi-Fi are the highlights here, since there's no spa, restaurant, or fitness center.
Villa Del Mar doesn’t have a ton of amenities, but its excellent location means guests can find everything it doesn’t have within walking distance. There’s no restaurant or spa here, but there are tons of eateries nearby, as well as spa services at neighboring hotels. Villa Del Mar’s two beautiful pools are a hit with guests. Throughout the day, guests relax on cushioned lounge chairs, sunbathe in the shallow water, and drop by the poolside bar for tropical cocktails. For those who’d rather hit the beach, Villa Del Mar has a reserved section of beach chairs and umbrellas for its guests. All they need to do is cross the street, walk through Grace Bay Club’s property, and take a left on the beach. There, they’ll find a small Villa Del Mar stand with a water jug, beach towels, and a beach attendant. Each morning the hotel serves a small continental breakfast near the poolside bar. There aren’t a ton of options, but the majority of Villa Del Mar guests use the full kitchen in their room for breakfast. Once a week, hotel staff members host a manager’s cocktail party, where guests can get to know one another while enjoying a free cocktail at the bar.Wi-Fi is free for all guests, and works well across the property and throughout the guest rooms.
