Bottom Line

This hotel is one of two Double Tree properties built within Turin’s famous former car factory. This is the smaller and less luxurious of the two, with 140 contemporary guest rooms, and although the facilities are comparable, the rooms here are slightly smaller and not as stylish. There’s a restaurant, bar, and two fitness centers to choose from. The property has plenty of style and flair, but the glass and metal decor may not be to everyone’s taste. The on-site business facilities and access to the Lingotto Conference Center make it ideal for business travelers. Tourists may prefer something nearer the city center and with more classic Italian charm.

Scene

Minimalist and business-like

The hotel’s lobby is an impressive space, dominated by a bank of glass elevators, with all the inner workings entirely on display.

From inside the elevators, guests have a 360-degree

Location

Shopping mall, cinema, and conference center on the doorstep

The hotel is not in the historic city center, so those wanting to explore the Roman Quarter will need to take the Metro in and out each time. It only takes 10 minutes though, and the Lingotto Metro station is right across the street. It’s a fairly quiet area too, so there are no issues here with noisy nightlife. In the vicinity, there are plenty of places to eat and drink. It’s a three-minute walk to the excellent Osteria del Fiat which serves typical home-cooked Italian meals. Eataly is just a five-minute walk, and there’s a huge range of eateries to sample there, as well as a grocery store and market. For shopping and entertainment, there is

direct access from the hotel to a large, modern mall and cinema complex, as well as the Lingotto Conference Center. It’s a 10-minute walk to the Automobile Museum. To drive from Turin Airport will

Rooms

Sleek and contemporary, with good views and spacious bathrooms

Many of the guest rooms here have stunning views. Half of them look out onto the Alps, while some have a unique view of the old test track that made the building famous. All come equipped with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, air-conditioning, a hairdryer, desk, safe, minibar, and a free newspaper. Connecting rooms and cribs are available for families. Furniture is a mixture of sleek glass and

angular wood, with a designer armchair to add some extra style. The bathrooms have sliding, frosted glass doors and large walk-in showers. They are spacious, and have a woodgrain-effect tile on the floor and walls. Expect to pay extra for Wi-Fi access in the rooms.

Features

Excellent fitness and business facilities, and quirky extras

One of the most special features of this hotel is the chance for guests to take a glimpse at its former life -- as everyone staying here has free access to the old car testing track up on the rooftop. It’s a unique space to take a walk or a jog. Also included in the stay is a free visit to the private art collection of Fiat founder Giovanni Agnelli. Fitness lovers are well catered for as there’s not one, but two places

to work out. The hotel itself has a modern gymnasium, and there’s free access to the one next door, which has an even wider range of equipment. A large, free, car park is available to guests, as is 24-hour room service, and free Wi-Fi in all the public areas. There’s a smart restaurant serving modern Italian food, although it is only open for dinner four nights a week. The bar has a good cocktail menu and wine list. It serves light meals like salads and sandwiches. For business guests, there are four smart meeting rooms, and a conference room that can seat up to 300 people. It’s a high-tech space with all the latest audio visual equipment.
