Bottom Line

Crystal Palms Beach Resort is a 36-room, mid-range boutique property located across the street from the beach on Treasure Island. The hotel has six floors, with the top two floors offering the best views. Apartments provide guests with private balconies and full kitchens, along with the convenience of a washer and dryer. There's an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub with tropical landscaping. While the hotel has neither its own fitness center or a restaurant, its location and the size of the rooms still make it a good value for the area.

Scene

Mid-range hotel located on a busy road across the street from the beach

Located on a main thoroughfare, Crystal Palms Beach Resort is a six-story hotel that blends in with neighboring buildings. The exterior of the hotel is painted sand colored with white trim. The grounds are green and well manicured with tropical palm trees and green lawns. The sun spills into the lobby from large floor-to-ceiling windows, but the brightness is muted by the deep-burgundy colored ceiling. A 500-square-foot meeting space filled with bright white leather couches, large wooden tables with white upholstered leather chairs, and floor-to-ceiling bay windows is located on the first floor. The large, rectangle-shaped outdoor pool is surrounded by a brick sundeck and lounge chairs.

Location

Minutes from the beach and a short drive to restaurants and other local attractions

With the beach just five minutes away, the location is likely part of what draws people to the Crystal Palms Beach, even though getting to the beach requires crossing busy Gulf Boulevard. The hotel is within a 20-minute drive of restaurants such as Caddy's Waterfront, Sloppy Joe's, and Gator's Cafe & Saloon. It's about a 20- to 30-minute drive to the Dali Museum, Tropicana Field, Coachman Park, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and John's Pass Village & Boardwalk. Other attractions, such as Busch Gardens, the Florida Aquarium, Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks, and Pier 60 Clearwater Beach, are about an hour's drive. Parking at the hotel is free and convenient.

Rooms

One- and two-bedroom apartments with private balconies and full kitchens -- plus a penthouse

All apartment-style rooms come with free Wi-Fi, full-size kitchens, private balconies, washer and dryers, and two bathrooms. The Three-Bedroom Penthouse suites have hot tubs in the master bedroom, and in one of the two bathrooms. Living rooms have large tan-colored leather couches and big flat-screen TVs. Light wood furniture as well as Art Deco-style paintings with blue and sand colors adorn the living room, dining room, and bedroom walls. Be aware that noise from the heavily trafficked road outside can be heard in some of the rooms on the lower floors.

Features

In-room massages, a pool, and free Wi-Fi

What sets this hotel apart from other nearby properties are the in-room massages booked through the nearby Paradise Massage & Day Spa. Freebies here include free Wi-Fi and parking. There's a large sundeck with a deep swimming pool, hot tub, and plenty of lounge chairs. The hotel doesn't have an on-site fitness center, but guests can use a nearby workout facility for a daily or weekly fee.
