The 206-room Kacha Resort & Spa, Koh Chang is a mid-range resort on beautiful White Sand Beach. Rooms, suites, and villas range from tired to more modern, and all have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free (but spotty) Wi-Fi. Rooms are split between those near the beach and others across the road facing the hills. For most guests, the beach side is more desirable. Features include two restaurants, a fitness center, and full-service spa. The two pools with swim-up bars are a highlight, although loungers are sometimes scarce. Both pools have kids' sections, and one has a slide -- the vibe is predictably lively. The beach at Aiyapura Koh Chang makes it a solid alternative, but it only has one pool that's not quite as nice as those found at Kacha.
Scene
Lively beachfront hotel that's especially popular with families, couples, and groups
With its location on White Sand Beach, this hotel is well-positioned for both relaxing by the pool or hitting the town's bars for evening fun. Because of its features for kids, including kids' pools and a kids' club, families with children are often seen here, which means it can be a lively, noisy place. Rooms are split between hillside rooms across the road from the beach, and those facing the sea. Hillside rooms are less expensive, but most guests prefer the rooms on the beach side, especially those overlooking the pool and the beach. Maintenance is inconsistent across rooms, so guests may want to take a look at their choice before committing. In addition to families, the hotel also draws couples, groups of friends, individuals, and some business guests.
Location
Situated on popular White Sand Beach, on northwest side of Koh Chang
This resort is situated on the northwest side of Koh Chang, and much of the property sits directly on White Sand Beach. The surrounding town is one of the more developed parts of the island, and is popular for shopping, dining, beach activities, entertainment, and people-watching. The hotel's position on the main road allows easy access to everywhere around the island, including to the popular Mu Ko Chang National Park, which is about 25 minutes away by car. After taking a 40-minute ferry ride from Trat to the island, expect about a 15-minute drive to the resort. The hotel offers shuttle service for a fee.
Rooms
From tired to more modern, with balconies or terraces -- some overlooking the pool and sea
The resort offers rooms that range from somewhat tired to simple and modern, with a range of standard-size units, villas, and suites. Units are situated in two buildings, one facing the hillside across the street from the beach and one looking out to the sea. All are equipped with flat-screen TVs, stocked minibars, kettles for tea and coffee, air-conditioning, and safes. While there is free Wi-Fi throughout the property, it can be spotty. Color schemes are neutral, mostly white and beige, and artwork consists mostly of black-and-white or pastel images. Floors are tiled or wood. It is worth noting that rooms in the hillside building are generally looking a bit more worn than those closer to the beach, and guests should request to check their room ahead of time to make sure they're getting their money's worth. All include furnished balconies or terraces, and Family Rooms accommodating up to four people are available. Bathrooms are modern and come with separate tiled tubs and showers, above-counter sinks, hairdryers, and toiletries. Suites have jetted tubs in the bathroom.
Features
Two restaurants, two pools, spa, fitness center, kids' club, library, and internet room
Features are fairly numerous here, on par with the other resorts in and around White Sand Beach. There are two dining options. The restaurant by the beach serves an international breakfast buffet each morning, and also offers Thai fare for lunch and dinner. It's a large, open space with lots of windows providing natural light. Lezzane is a casual Italian eatery with indoor and outdoor seating for lunch and dinner. The two outdoor swimming pools both have separate pools for the kids. The main pool by the beach is surrounded by towering trees and blooming flowers. Covered huts provide shade, as do umbrellas over lounge chairs. Elephant fountains spray water from the side, and there's a swim-up bar. Unfortunately, lounge chairs here are sometimes in short supply. At the hillside pool, a curvy slide entertains the youngsters, and grown-ups can swim up to the bar and relax in the whirlpool in the center. The wide sandy beach is rocky in one section, but guests can easily walk past that part for swimming. A row of lounge chairs lined up by the pool overlook the beach. The full-service Majesty Spa offers a variety of massages and treatments. The fitness center has cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as free weights. A library and internet room provides a couple of computers for guests to use, and Wi-Fi is free, but spotty. For the young ones, there's a colorful kids' club with toys, books, puzzles, and games. For the grown-ups and older kids, there's an entertainment room with a billiards table, flat-screen TV, and karaoke machine.
