Best Torquay Hotels with Pools
Sure there are public beaches throughout Torquay, a seaside resort town in the English Riviera. But staying in a hotel with a pool means you can balance your beach time with quieter dips away from the masses. Here are our favorite Torquay hotels with swimming pools.
Lincombe Hall Hotel
Torquay, English Riviera, Devon, England, United Kingdom
Originally named Silver Hill House, this outstanding mid-range property was built in 1841 as a private summer retreat before changing hands in 1919 to become Lincombe Hall. The 44-room hotel is set on two acres of gardens in a leafy, quiet neighborhood that's a short stroll from Torquay's center and waterfront -- though the return walk is uphill and might be difficult for some. Leisure facilities include both indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, lounge chairs for sun bathing, and an outdoor hot tub.
The Palace Hotel
Occupying an impressive grand mansion dating back to the 1920s -- once home to the Bishop of Exeter -- this 141-room hotel offers a step back into the past with elegant interiors that are Old World (but in need of a revamp) and sprawling green grounds. Those 25 acres of manicured lawns and gardens provide plenty to do on-site: the grounds include a playground, nine-hole golf course and putting green, and an outdoor pool (there is also an indoor pool, but neither are heated like the ones at Lincombe). The upper-middle-range hotel is located a 10-minute walk from the beach.
The Imperial Torquay
Torquay, English Riviera, Devon, England, United Kingdom
One of the top highlights at the historic Imperial Hotel is its clifftop location that offers gorgeous views of the beautiful Devon coast. The upper-middle-range hotel optimizes its scenic spot by offering lovely sea views from many points, including the decent-sized outdoor pool with terraced sundecks lined with loungers. There's also an indoor pool, as well as a hot tub, sauna, and solarium.
Riviera Lodge Hotel Torquay
Torquay, English Riviera, Devon, England, United Kingdom
Built as a holiday home for a high-ranking naval officer, the Riviera Lodge Hotel's original building dates back to the 1850s. The 19-room property is pleasant with the ambience you'd expect from a mid-range seaside bed-and-breakfast: the hosts are friendly and helpful, the interiors spotlessly clean, and the rates inclusive of cooked-to-order and continental breakfast items. A plus point here is the seasonal outdoor swimming pool. It may not be on a cliff like the Imperial's, but it is heated and surrounded by sun loungers. Next to the pool is also an impressively modern and roomy hot tub with multi-directional hydro-jets. Riviera Lodge is located on a peaceful road that winds down to the Torquay waterfront and its main beach, Torre Abby Sands, which is less than a 10-minute walk away.
