Bottom Line

Woodbine
Hotel & Suites is a two-and-a-half pearl hotel located less than five miles
away from Toronto Pearson International Airport. With Wi-Fi, breakfast, and
on-site parking all offered for free, the hotel is a reasonably-priced option
for guests en route to or from the airport. However, its remote location on
Highway 27 is likely to leave those without their own transportation feeling
stranded and past guests have complained about noise from the nearby convention center. The hotel’s 55 guest rooms are neat but the decor is dated, and there
are almost no on-site amenities. Guests
seeking anything more than simply a place to sleep and eat breakfast could be disappointed. The nearby Comfort Inn Toronto Airport and Travelodge Hotel Toronto Airport both offer better value for budget travelers.

Scene

No-frills airport hotel caters to in-and-out guests

The Woodbine Hotel is suitable for guests seeking a budget-friendly place to rest during a long layover or journey to the airport, but offers little else. From the lobby to the guest rooms, everything is decorated
in dark woods and muted patterns, giving the hotel a somewhat stuffy ambience. With limited on-site amenities, generic guest rooms, and few attractions in the area, the hotel seems designed for sleeping rather than lingering. The front desk was quite busy during our visit, and the atmosphere was brisk
and business-like: Check in, sleep, and check out.

Location

Isolated highway-side location, four-and-a-half miles from Toronto Pearson International Airport

The hotel is located about a 10-minute drive from Toronto
Pearson International Airport, along Highway 27. This middle-of-nowhere
location could be challenging for guests relying on walking and public
transportation. There are a few dining options at the Woodbine Race Track,
which is found opposite the hotel, but to reach the track on foot requires
crossing over the busy highway. For those with their own transportation, downtown Toronto
can be reached in 40 minutes, and there are also several restaurants found within
a 10-minute drive, mainly along Dixon Road. The hotel is one-and-a-half miles
away from the Fantasy Fair at Woodbine Shopping Centre, and less than four
miles from Wild Water Kingdom.

Rooms

Tidy but dull rooms feature bathrooms with large granite counter-tops

Guest rooms are decorated in drab beige and gray tones, and the curtains and bed
runners have dated-looking patterns. Standard Queen Rooms are cramped, but the
other room categories are quite large. In most rooms, dark wood armoires hold a
microwave, mini-fridge, bottled water, coffeemaker, and safe; although some
rooms have a built-in wall unit for these amenities. The windows
in some rooms offer nondescript views of the highway; while others have windows
oddly facing towards interior areas of the hotel, such as the breakfast space. Average-size
bathrooms feature large granite counter-tops and off-brand toiletries. Most
bathrooms have a shower, but a few have bathtubs.

Features

Attached banquet and convention center, free Wi-Fi, and free buffet breakfast

Free buffet breakfast is served in a kitschy dining area
called the courtyard, which is dominated by an enormous chandelier. With its
high ceilings, marble flooring, and a fireplace anchoring one end, the
courtyard could be elegant but it instead feels out-of-place in the otherwise
utilitarian hotel. Dining tables only take up half of the gigantic space,
giving the courtyard an unsettlingly cavernous atmosphere. The lobby includes an ATM, as well as a computer and
printer available for guest use. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel,
and free parking is available on-site. Airport shuttle services and long-stay
parking are both available for additional charges. The hotel connects to the Woodbine Banquet & Convention
Centre, which offers 18,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.
Like the guest rooms, the convention center is functional but old-fashioned, decorated
with garnish chandeliers similar to the one found in the courtyard.
