Town Inn
Suites is an all-suite hotel located in uptown Toronto, within walking distance
of diverse shopping and dining options as well as Bloor-Yonge subway station. The
prime location and on-site indoor pool, combined with 200 suites that offer balconies and thoroughly-stocked kitchens, make this two-and-a-half pearl hotel an excellent value;
however, some of the hotel facilities feel dated and the inconsistent suite cleanliness
is disappointing. The Wi-Fi surcharges also come as an unpleasant surprise for
many guests.
Scene
Uptown hotel with budget-friendly suites
The
atmosphere of Town Inn Suites feels mixed overall. Some facilities are stylish
and well-maintained, while others seem appropriate for the relatively low suite
prices. The drab brown tones of the hotel’s exterior and front desk area are
reminiscent of an older apartment building; while the adjacent lobby sitting
area feels contemporary with its sleek gray tones, colorful pillows, black
faux-fireplace, and soft jazz background music.Large,
modern suites with excellent balcony views contrast with clunky old elevators
and a YMCA-style pool area facing towards outside construction. The crowd is
diverse, with families, couples, and singles all spotted during our visit – some
ostensibly drawn by the convenient location and others by the pet-friendly
policies.
Location
Central location within a five-minute walk of Bloor-Yonge subway station
Set across
from low-rise apartment buildings and convenience stores, the area directly
around the hotel doesn’t look particularly glamorous; but the location is nonetheless
extremely convenient for exploring the city. The hotel is about a five-minute walk
from the busy Bloor-Yonge intersection, which is packed with restaurants, pubs,
cafes, and shops. The Eaton Center, Air Canada Center, CN Tower, and Distillery
District are all less than four kilometers away. Toronto’s two primary subway
lines intersect at Bloor-Yonge subway station, allowing for quick access to the
rest of the city.
Rooms
Suites feature full kitchens and balconies, the majority which offer striking views of the Toronto skyline
Ranging between 500 to 900 square feet, all suites include
separate living areas. Full kitchens are equipped with ovens, microwaves, and
all the accessories needed to prepare a meal, from oven gloves to cutting
boards. Large balconies feature wonderful views of the Toronto skyline. Some
suites also include dishwashers, washer/dryer units, and separate dining areas.Aside from the white linens and four pillows stacked in an
upright line on each bed, the hotel’s different suite types look like they
could belong to completely different properties. Some suites are bright with
pale wood flooring and light-colored furniture; while others are a sea of
brown, with dark wood or parquet flooring paired with equally-dark cupboards,
desks, and sofas. Bathrooms include a bathtub/shower combo and eco-friendly
Earth Tempo bath products. Suites look neat and organized upon first glance, but a
closer look revealed a few cleanliness issues, including streaky fridge doors
and debris stuck between ovens and countertops. It certainly isn’t the level
of griminess likely to make most guests feel afraid to crawl between the sheets
at night, but some may not find it up to standard.
Features
Lap pool and small fitness center with TV
The hotel includes a large indoor pool and sauna. The pool
area is uninspiring, with hospital blue walls, faded tiling, and a concrete
ceiling. There’s also a large, but somewhat old-fashioned-looking meeting room, which
includes a single computer and printer set-up available for guest use. The
small fitness center includes four different pieces of cardio equipment,
free weights, and a TV.The hotel shares its address with O.Noir restaurant, which
is located in a separate lower level building in front of the hotel. Town Inn
Suites also offers laundry and dry cleaning services, as well as a 24-hour
front desk. Wi-Fi and on-site parking are available for additional fees. The
hotel is pet-friendly, although again, a surcharge applies.
