Scene
Budget-friendly hotel with bright, cozy lobby and lots of mid-century modern touches
Bond Place Hotel is housed in a tall, contemporary building with exteriors featuring a mix of off-white siding, mirrored reflective windows, and classic red brick. Inside, the lobby is stylish and cozy, with contemporary takes on Mid-Century Modern furniture (think low chairs with plaid or faux-leather pincushion upholstery) and pops of color in the form of a sky-blue sofa and a few red accents. Large windows let in lots of natural light and are complemented by a mix of recessed lighting and suspended lightbulb-style light fixtures. Three elevators lead up to guest rooms, mostly occupied by business travelers on a budget or those needing affordable lodging near the local university.
Location
University District location, walking distance to restaurants and aa quick drive from area attractions
This hotel is situated in the Queen's Park and the University District, a neighborhood characterized by beautiful Neo-Gothic buildings and a tree-dotted park with monuments, footpaths, and benches. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the area, popular with students and young professionals alike, and while some parts of the surrounding area, particularly Allan Gardens, can feel seedy at night, the area is generally safe. It's a three-minute walk to Dundas Square, a five-minute walk to the Eaton Centre shopping mall, and about 15-minutes on foot to St. Lawrence Market. The University of Toronto, Queen's Park, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the historic shop-filled Distillery District are all within a five-minute drive of the hotel. The CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Bloor Street, and Casa Loma are all around 10 minutes away by car. The Toronto Pearson International Airport takes about a half-hour to reach from the hotel, traffic permitting. It's a 35-minute trip to Centre Island (by car and ferry).
Rooms
Bright and contemporary, but small, rooms and suites with lovely bathrooms
Rooms and suites are differentiated primarily by bed configuration and size, as most units share similarly bright, contemporary decor and modern amenities. Rooms all measure a snug 275 square feet (26 square meters) and feature light-wood furniture, flooring, and wall paneling with accents in either charcoal-and-white graphical designs or a more dated solid turquoise. Junior Queen Suites and Deluxe Suites measure 375 square feet (35 square meters); the latter feature up to three beds and sleep up to four guests. The top category, Bond Suites, measure 400 square feet (37 square meters) and add extras such as pull-out sofa beds and microwaves. Standard amenities flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, irons with ironing boards, robes, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and mini-fridges. Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Bathroom design is sleek and modern, with a mix of gray tile and marble, plus long counters with vessel sinks and frosted-glass windows in some. They feature shower/tub combos (in rooms) or big walk-in showers in suites (some suites also have deep standalone soaking tubs). Hairdryers and toiletries are provided. Note that there have been multiple complaints of street noise in rooms, so those who sleep lightly should be prepared to use earplugs.
Features
Limited amenities include meeting space, parking, and Wi-Fi for a fee
This hotel doesn't offer much in terms of amenities, though there is a small cafe on the property, the PomAnar Grill and Juicery, which offers coffee, juice, and light meals and snacks.
