The Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo is a
huge mid-range hotel complex offering 3,679 guest rooms spread over
four high-rise towers. Rooms here are functional and comfortable and are equipped with mini-fridges and electric kettles, though some show signs of wear and tear. The hotel's complex includes two swimming pools, 13 food and beverage
outlets, tennis courts, a shopping mall, cinema, bowling alley, and even an aquarium. Its location opposite Shinagawa train station, a
five-minute walk away, makes it a convenient base for leisure and
business travelers. But room rates here tend to run more expensive than hotels of a similar category in the same area; for example, Keikyu EX Inn Shinagawa Ekimae offers better value, with
bigger guest rooms.
Scene
Massive hotel in a busy and noisy shopping complex
The
Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo is a huge busy hotel complex
made up of four towers (the Main Tower, the Annex Tower, the N Tower,
and the East Tower), and an adjacent shopping and entertainment
complex that tends to get noisy and crowded with shoppers almost all
hours of the day. Both the exteriors and the public interiors are ultra-modern and sterile. Each of the four towers has a
separate lobby and check-in, and can cause some confusion among
guests who may have to shuttle from one tower to the other to find
out where their room is reserved (which isn't made obvious when booking). The lobby areas are uncluttered but lack any decoration or attempts to make them more inviting to hotel guests. But there are plenty of other spaces for guests to linger and play including the 13 dining and drinking options, an on-site aquarium, even a karaoke venue. Most guests staying here are business travelers who
choose the hotel because of its proximity to Shinagawa train station
and area offices.
Location
Opposite Shinagawa train station
Shinagawa
Prince Hotel Tokyo is part of a busy complex that includes a large
shopping center and cinema. There are many restaurants, cafes, and
supermarkets in the immediate area and it's a five-minute walk to
Shinagawa train station, from where many destinations in Japan can be
reached via regional and high-speed Shinkansen trains. It's a 13-minute
walk to Hara Museum of Contemporary Art and a 15-minute
walk to Hatakeyama Memorial Museum of Fine Art. By train, guests can reach Sengakuji temple in 12 minutes, and it's 15 to 20 minutes to get to Tokyo Station, the Meiji Shrine, the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum, and the Tokyo International Airport. Ueno Park and the Akasaka Hikawa Shrine are half an hour a way by public transit, while both the Seno-ji Temple and the Tokyo Imperial Palace take 35 minutes to reach.
Rooms
Functional and comfortable rooms, though they lack character
The
guest rooms at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo are not much different
from the generic rooms found in business hotels across Japan. They
are functional and comfortable, but generally lack style or
character. All rooms have mini-fridges, electric kettles, flat-screen TVs, and electronic safes. The floors are covered with blue wall-to-wall carpeting and the walls and curtains are a pale green. Furniture is simple,
finished in warm blond wood. The reasonably spacious rooms in the newest tower (the Main Tower)
are in good condition, but some rooms in the older towers show many signs
of wear and tear and are in need of updating. Bathrooms are compact and tiled in dark green and fitted with small bathtubs with walk-in showers. Past guests have complained
about the smell of cigarette smoke in guest rooms, even those that are supposed to be
nonsmoking.
Features
Two swimming pools, 13 food and beverage outlets, and shopping and entertainment
Given its sprawling size, the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Tokyo offers a plethora of dining, drinking, and entertainment features. Guests can choose from 13
on-site restaurants, cafes, and bars serving Japanese, Chinese, and
Western cuisine. There's even a karaoke bar. The Top of Shinagawa
Prince Count restaurant on the 39th floor of the Main Tower has incredible views of Tokyo. Cafe
Restaurant 24 is open around the clock. The hotel complex also
includes two swimming pools, a shopping mall, a movie theater, a bowling
alley, tennis courts, and an aquarium. A small fitness center is open
to guests, and business travelers can use the business services, on-site meeting rooms, and computer workstations. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. A limousine bus service travels to
and from Narita Airport, for a fee. The hotel also
offers an in-house massage service. Coin-operated laundry facilities are open 24 hours, and vending and ice machines are located in the hallway.
