The 199-room Shiba Park Hotel is a generic mid-range business hotel near the subway and the city's business district. Its public spaces and guest rooms are neat and clean, but have a dated look. An annex is undergoing renovations (as of 2016) and will give part of the hotel a much needed face-lift. In-room amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, electric kettles, and mini-fridges, but there are no safes and the bathrooms are small. A Western or Japanese breakfast buffet is available for a pricey extra fee, while other features include a Chinese restaurant, a lounge bar, a business center, and a coin laundry. Travelers might want to compare rates with the nearby Celestine Hotel, which has modern guest rooms with minibars.
Scene
Generic hotel popular with leisure tourists and business travelers
Shiba
Park Hotel has a generic and uninspiring business hotel look. Public spaces, though clean and neat, are done up in
a dated look and are due for refurbishment. The color scheme in
the lobby area is a neutral palette of beige hues, including tile floors and
carpeting that match the pale yellow brickwork of the walls. The
beige upholstered sofas embedded in brickwork benches look
old-fashioned, while the black leather chesterfields and armchairs add a more up-to-date feel. A few potted plants add a
bit of life to the monochromatic color scheme. This is a popular place to stay with leisure travelers,
especially couples and families. And some business travelers also choose
to stay here because of the proximity to the city's business
district.
Location
Close to Tokyo's business district and a few minutes' walk to the subway
Shiba
Park Hotel is located close to Tokyo's Hamamatsu-cho business
district, and a three-minute walk to the Onarimon
subway station. The iconic Tokyo Tower is nearby, and other
attractions that can be easily reached on foot include Shiba Park and Zozo-ji temple. There are many restaurants, shops, and
convenience stores located near the hotel.- Three-minutewalk to Onarimon subway station
Rooms
Clean but drab guest rooms with flat-screen TVs and tea/coffee facilities
The
guest rooms at Shiba Park Hotel are not spacious by American
standards, but they're less cramped than typical Tokyo hotel rooms.
Though clean and well maintained, the room decor is old-fashioned and
bland. Some rooms are decked out in tones of beige, similar to the
color scheme in the lobby area, with beige carpeting, curtains, and bedspreads. Other rooms feature a gray and navy palette, while some are dominated by dark brown tones. Furniture is kept to a minimum, and there are no decorative aspects
that could make the rooms feel more welcoming and less generic. The
bathrooms are fitted with typical Japanese-style plastic sinks,
small bathtubs with showerheads, and electronic toilets. In-room
amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi,
electric kettles, and mini-fridges. There are also free toiletries in
the bathrooms as well as hairdryers, slippers, and nightwear (common
in Japan). However, there are no safes. Quad Rooms can sleep up to four
guests and are popular with families, and there are also double and twin rooms that interconnect. Note that some
rooms have low ceilings and can feel cramped as a result, and a few
past guests have complained about a lingering smell of cigarette
smoke.
Features
Breakfast buffet, restaurant and lounge bar, plus meeting rooms and business center
This mid-range hotel offers a few extra features and services to add to its appeal, though nothing that's above the norm. A breakfast buffet (choice of Western or Japanese) is available, but it's not included in the room rates and is charged an expensive extra fee. The hotel also has a dark lounge bar, The Fifteen's, that's open for morning and afternoon tea time and lunch, as well as for drinks during weekday evenings. Other on-site amenities here include a business center with computers (available for guest use free of charge), meeting rooms, and laundry machines (charged extra). The hotel also offers on-site parking that's charged an extra fee. The Wi-Fi connection is free and available in all parts of the hotel, but can be unreliable.
