Bottom Line

As its name suggests, the 477-room Royal Park Hotel The Shiodome is located within the Shiodome Tower in downtown Tokyo. The upscale property is within walking distance of the famed Tsukiji Fish Market and conveniently connected to two metro stations, making it easy to access the rest of the city. Contemporary decor and big work desks cater to business travelers, and all but the small Economy Rooms have great views of the city from the high-rise's upper floors. Four restaurants, including a cafe that serves macrobiotic cuisine, give plenty of dining options, while the large Mandara Spa adds pampering perks, though there's no pool or hot tub. Travelers might want to compare rates with the comparable Park Hotel Tokyo across the street, which has stylish, modern rooms, some featuring beautiful hand-painted art on the walls.

Scene

Business hotel at the top of Shiodome Tower

Occupying both underground levels and the upper floors of the Shiodome Tower, the hotel is split between 20-some floors of office space tenants, with a lobby on the 24th floor. Onyx floors contrast with the reception's glowing white front desk, and the floor-to-ceiling windows make for an impressive view. On the opposite end, an open white staircase leads up to a mezzanine with a large banquet hall. The hotel's restaurants are equally sleek and polished, with walls of windows offering stunning city views.

Location

Located in the Shiodome Tower in central Tokyo, within walking distance of several attractions

The Royal Park Hotel The Shiodome, Tokyo is situated inside its namesake office tower in Tokyo's futuristic Shiodome neighborhood. It's directly connected to an underpass that links it to Shimbashi and Shiodome stations, making the entire city easily accessible. Shiodome is mostly centered around business pursuits: It's home to the headquarters of All Nippon Airways, Fujitsu, and Nippon Television. For leisure travelers, Hamarikyu Garden on Tokyo Bay, Tsukiji fish market, and the shopping mecca of Ginza are all within a 20-minute walk of the hotel. Haneda Airport is about a 15-minute drive to the south, while Narita International Airport is about an hour drive to the east.

Rooms

Contemporary decor with large work desks, deep soaking tubs, and great city views

The hotel's 477 rooms have high ceilings and a contemporary decor with a conservative gray, white, and black color palette. Varying textured wallpapers, some with a faint leaf pattern, are sparsely decorated with framed monochrome artwork. Located on the 26th through 38th floors of the building, most rooms (besides Economy Rooms) offer unobstructed city views. All have large work desks with roller chairs and small chaise lounges by the windows, while Deluxe Rooms add sitting areas that have couches and dark wood coffee tables. Flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and electric tea makers come standard, with Keurig coffee machines in some of the rooms. Bathrooms have electronic toilets and Japanese-style baths that have an open walk-in shower next to a deep-soaking tub.

Features

Multiple dining options, large banquet hall, full service spa, and fitness center

The 24th-floor cocktail bar has live entertainment in the evenings and also serves a continental breakfast (not included). Other dining options range from the lobby's buffet restaurant Harmony, to the casual macrobiotic cafe Chaya on the building's first floor. More serious diners can find private rooms and Hong Kong dim sum with wine pairings at XVIN. Mikuri Kurumaya serves traditional Japanese cuisine, teppanyaki, and sushi on the 25th floor. On the basement level, Mandara Spa offers 11 treatment rooms and a variety of treatments such as massages and facials, as well as hydrotherapy facilities that include a sauna and steam bath. An adjacent fitness center has a dozen modern cardio machines, including treadmills and steppers. The hotel also has a 24-hour Kinko's business center with printing services, several small meeting rooms, and a large banquet hall. There's a convenience store that's 24-hour, as well as laundry facilities.
