Bottom Line

When it comes to beachfront views with little interruption, the Thai House Beach Resort is hard to beat. Regular shuttles make it easy to visit nearby attractions and participate in outdoor activities and water sports. The towering palm trees and lush vegetation give a feeling of peaceful isolation, ideal for both honeymooners and families looking for a quiet retreat. Guests can book either a room or villa; all include the same modern amenities, like free Wi-Fi, cable television, and a DVD player. Private balconies give the feeling of a larger space overall, but decor is relatively sparse.

Thai House Beach Resort

Scene

Lamai Beach is front and center

While the Thai House Beach Resort does boast traditional Thai décor and architecture in the lobby and outdoor gardens, the room and villa decor mainly sticks to basic furniture and Western comforts. The beachfront pool serves as a constant reminder that you’re facing the Gulf of Thailand, as does the beachside massage sala and outdoor dining.

Thai House Beach Resort takes a functional approach to interior design. Rooms and villas have modern appliances and western comforts like air-conditioning and hair-dryers, while the fluffy pillows, fresh flowers, and wall art add color to the space. Gardens and tall palm trees provide shade from the hot sun and surround many of the public areas like the pool and beach areas, which contribute to a romantic, private atmosphere despite being surrounded by other resorts properties.

Location

Beachfront resort about 20 minutes from the airport

Thai House Beach Resort is located along Lamai Beach (also called “Coconut Island”) on the east coast of Koh Samui, the third largest island in Thailand. From Samui Airport, it’s a 20 to 25-minute drive to the resort. Like at many of the surrounding resorts, guests have direct access to the beach. The Lamai Temple and the Big Buddha Temple are both nearby attractions. There are also lots of clothing and souvenir shops, restaurants, and bars in the center of Lamai.

Rooms

Simple design with somewhat sparse decor

The rooms at Thai House Beach Resort are simple and sophisticated, but not the most stylish. Some guests have noted that rooms could use a modern revamp, but at least the beachfront views are spectacular. Sturdy and smooth light-to-medium wood furniture and ivory colored tile floors look sleek against the mostly white walls. There are several windows that let lots of light into each room. Bathrobes and slippers are placed in each villa, as is an umbrella. Guests are greeted with welcome floral decorations on the beds.

Amenities cover the basics for any tech-savvy traveler: free Wi-Fi, DVD players, and cable television. There are also beach towels in the room so guests can save room in their suitcases when packing. Each room also has a wooden drying rack for towels and bathing suits. Naturally, some villa views feel more secluded than others -- while others, like that of the Thai House Villa, overlook the communal swimming pool. That being said, the lush gardens that surround each villa and much of the property create the feeling of more privacy.

24-hour entertainment is a highlight

TheThai House Beach Resort might be the ultimate place to kick back and relax, but it’s also just steps away from the beach and cultural attractions. Boats and jet skis can be seen from the beach and there are many cushioned beach chairs and umbrellas set up along the white, sandy shore. The waves are rather calm here and there are markers in the water indicating where to swim. Children can stick close to their parents or play in the kids' pool. Anyone can lounge by the public pool or stop by the restaurant, but for more interactive options, a Thai cooking class is a good option and available upon request.

Like other resorts in the area, it's quite possible to plan one's entire trip right from the resort lobby. With 24-hour security and reception, babysitting services, a tour desk with tips on where and what to visit, and motor bike rentals, it's quite easy to get around the island. Within the property itself, guests have a slew of entertainment options ranging from poolside drink service and spa treatments to a quiet reading corner and in-room dining. There’s also a 24-hour doctor on call in case of emergencies. Bookworms will enjoy the quiet reading corner while couples may gravitate toward the whirlpool or beachfront swimming pool. The outdoor massage sala is steps from the beach and shaded under a canopy and palm trees.
