The 144-room Samui Palm Beach Resort is an upper-mid-range hotel that occupies a fine stretch of sand along Bophut Beach on Samui's northern shore. There are many restaurants in the neighborhood and the touristy Fisherman's Village is just nearby, plus the airport is only 10 minutes away by car. The rooms here are set in several wings, with the Royal Wing being slightly fancier than the Hotel Wing. Best of all are the villas, set closer to the beach. All of the spacious rooms have separate tubs and showers, and patios. The big draw of the resort is its two pools, with the Royal pool being the largest swimming pool in Koh Samui. There is also a pool and beach bar, plus the Trade Winds restaurant looking out at the sea. The main drawback here is the lack of free Wi-Fi in rooms, although there is a lobby lounge with free access. Prices are also slightly higher than the neighboring competition, but one does get a nice stretch of quieter beach here.
Scene
Peaceful resort on the beach popular with families and couples not looking for a big party
This is a resort for water and beach lovers. The Samui Palm Beach Resort has the island's largest swimming pool, and most guests spend their time here hanging out at one of the two pools or on the beach. The most popular spot is the elevated sun bed deck that sits above the pool; in fact guests show up early in the morning to reserve a spot here. The lobby is a simple space, decorated in neutral colors with some cozy areas to sit, though is nothing fancy. Guests here are a mix of older couples, families, and just about anyone looking for a beach vacation without too much pretense or dress code. As the Fisherman's Village with dozens of restaurants and bars is just a short walk away, most guests here go out at night, so the resort is quiet. As this is not Chaweng Beach, it doesn't attract the party crowd, but a more mature group, interested in a quiet and peaceful retreat along the sea.
Location
Located right on the beach in Bophut, 10 minutes from the airport, surrounded by restaurants and shopping
The Samui Palm Beach Resort sits on Bophut Beach, on the northern coastline of Samui. The resort is a 10-minute drive from the airport, is within walking distance of the touristy Fisherman's Village, and has dozens of restaurants and shops nearby. The main road out front is very busy and full of traffic day and night, but the hotel is set far back from it, and the beach area is pleasant. While you won't have it to yourself, it's a convenient spot, not too loud or party oriented; it's a good beach chill out location.
Rooms
Spacious rooms and bathrooms with patios; polished villas feature four-poster beds
There are several wings in the hotel, with a variety of rooms in each, plus separate villas. The Royal Wing has similar rooms to the Hotel Wing, only with pool views. All rooms are spacious; they have nice traditional paintings on the doors featuring old Thailand themes. Rooms include safes, minibars, flat-screen TVs (some rooms have tube-style TVs), and electric kettles with free tea and instant coffee. Rooms also include desks, sofas, and patios, and the bathrooms are large, featuring separate bathtubs and showers. The villas are probably the nicest rooms, as they have four-poster beds and ample art, however the poster beds take up much of the room and minimize the space. The biggest drawback to all of the rooms is the lack of free Wi-Fi access.
Features
Two beautiful swimming pools, beach bar, and restaurant
The Samui Palm Beach Resort has the largest swimming pool in all Koh Samui. The aptly named Royal Pool curves around an entire hotel wing. There is plenty of room for swimming here, and the hotel's other pool, the Villa Pool, is also very nice, set out near the beach with a platform of big sun beds to utilize, plus plenty of other loungers set around the pool and in the garden. The beach itself is narrow and long, but the stretch here is one of the nicer bits in the entire Bophut area, and the hotel has kept it less crowded by putting sunbeds and loungers on the small rise just above it, rather than crowding everything right on the sand. There is a small beach bar and a swim-up bar to take care of cocktail needs while in the water. Trade Winds restaurant serves inclusive buffet breakfasts as well as lunch and dinner right out by the beach. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby for free. While the resort does not have free Wi-Fi in the rooms, it does have a spacious lobby lounge, separate from the lobby, where guests can relax on sofas, watch TV, read newspapers, and access the internet on their own devices or on public computers. The Samui Palm Beach also has a large ballroom, suitable for weddings and other big group functions.
