Among the best
value places to stay on Thailand’s Phi Phi Island, the Phi Phi Dream
is a 14-room budget guesthouse with little more to offer than a clean and bright place to rest at night. Air-conditioned rooms are tiny, but equipped with free Wi-Fi, small flat-screen TVs, and super-compact en-suite bathrooms. Best suited for backpackers and extremely light travelers, this hotel lives up to its name for the budget-minded who only need a place to rest at night.
Scene
Bare bones guest house that draws backpackers and value seekers
Situated on the second floor of a two-floor building, Phi Phi Dream is a simple operation
that only consists of a reception window, 14 guest rooms, and a small seating area. The seating area is in front of the reception window and serves as the designated smoking area. Rooms are accessed via stairway from the ground
floor, and the entrance is flanked by tour outfitters running boats to neighboring islands. The place is frequented almost exclusively by
backpackers from all over the world.
Location
Surrounded by other budget hotels in a somewhat quieter part of Phi Phi
On Phi Phi Island in the middle of the Andaman Sea, the hotel is located in a neighborhood of youth hostels and small, affordable guesthouses. There are other
two-story buildings all around, and plenty of tour outfitters selling boat trips and
post cards. There is a mini-mart two buildings down selling drinks, snacks, and
necessities, and a decent restaurant across the road. The nearest beach, Loh Dalum Beach, is about a five-minute walk from the hotel, but the nicer
beaches, like Long Beach, take a bit longer to reach (about 15-minutes on foot). Phi Phi Island is only accessed by boat, and is famous for its sheer limestone cliffs, jungles, and sandy
beaches. The island is accessed via Phuket, Krabi town, or Ao Nang by ferry, a trip that can take one-and-a-half to two hours. There are airports in Phuket and Krabi.
Rooms
Clean rooms with tiny bathrooms plus air-conditioning and TV
The hotel's 14 rooms are compact and simple, but
nicely decorated with a smattering of authentic Thai prints on the wall and colorful bed skirts. Beds have light wood headboards and there are attractive hardwood floors throughout. Most rooms have a pair of closely packed twin beds separated by a small
nightstand. There is a safe, an air-conditioning unit, flat-screen
TV, and free Wi-Fi access in most rooms. The tiled en-suite bathrooms are tiny. Bathrooms are wet rooms, like many bathrooms across the island and tropics around the world. Guests should not expect their shower to be separated from the space containing the toilet and sink, and the entire room will get wet when the shower is used.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, laundry, and massage services, but no bar or restaurant
This hotel is about as bare bones as it gets and there are almost zero on-site features. Free Wi-Fi is available and there is a smoking table next to the reception window. The establishment does offer a
laundry service as well as massage services, and can help book tours throughout the islands. There are no meals served on site.
