Situated on Chaweng Noi Beach, the mid-range Fair House Beach Resort & Hotel offers an affordable, albeit unexceptional, getaway for couples and families. The buzzing nightlife and ample eateries of Chaweng are about a 10-minute car ride away. There are 172 rooms with contemporary decor and Thai accents, though many are starting to show their age. Still, all come with a furnished balcony or terrace, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, minibar, and a TV -- some of which are old tube-style. There are a fair amount of features here, including two outdoor pools, an open-air restaurant overlooking the beach and serving free breakfast, and a spa and fitness center. Families traveling with children may prefer Samui Buri Beach Resort, which has a kids' club and separate swimming area for kids.
Scene
Quiet hotel with expansive, hilly grounds and traditional Thai accents
Fair House Beach Resort & Hotel offers an attractive mix of tropical gardens and beachfront bliss. The entire property is inundated with lush greenery and palm trees galore; the hilly and expansive grounds can be difficult for some but guests can request rides on golf carts to get around. At the entrance of the hotel, which is surrounded by sky-high palm trees and flowers, sits two big stone elephant statues -- the first nod to traditional Thai decor. The lobby has a traditional vibe with its vaulted-wood ceiling, classic Thai wood furniture, patterned throw pillows, and small pottery accents. Rooms are more contemporary but still offer some local flair. Though it's in close proximity to a lively scene, the atmosphere here is quiet and calm, drawing in mostly couples and low-key families plus some wedding parties.
Location
Picturesque beachfront location close to Chaweng Beach
From the hotel, guests are a 10-minute drive from popular Chaweng Beach and its buzzing bar scene. Alternatively, guests can just take a short walk from their rooms (though the walk may be a littlelonger depending on room location) to the peaceful beachfront shores that Fair House Beach Resort & Hotel sits on. Previous guests have noted that the hotel's beach is so quiet that it feels private. The surrounding area has a fair amount of dining options and there's a 7-Eleven a 16-minute walk away. The Big Buddha Temple is a 22-minute drive away, while Lamai Beach is 17 minutes in the opposite direction. Samui Airport is just under 20 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Mostly contemporary and spacious rooms with Thai accents
Of the 172 rooms, there are seven different slightly varying styles to choose from, all of which promise a furnished outdoor sitting area. All have a mostly contemporary style with sleek wood furniture and wood accents throughout, plus some local flair in the form of vibrant throw pillows, floral artwork, and fresh Frangipani flowers on the beds. Some areas are showing wear however, and some faded upholstery could use a refresh. Some rooms have attractive natural stone outdoor showers or indoor marble bathrooms with tubs and separate showers; others have shower/tub combos or walk-in showers. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a TV (many of which are dated, tube-style), coffee- and tea-making facilities, a safe, and minibar. Free bath products and a hairdryer are also provided.
Features
Two well-sized pools, whirlpool, and a beach bar that offers happy hour
Fair House Beach Resort & Hotel has a good array of leisure features, but the mixed reviews for food at the restaurant is a letdown. The beach is a lovely sandy spot with free loungers and a quiet atmosphere. A beach bar with happy hour specials has cushioned wicker lounge furniture on the bar's deck andseats in the sand, too. All rates include a breakfast consisting of local and international cuisine. Room service is available during limited hours. There are two decent-sized pools and one has an attached hot tub. Both have plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The spa offers a variety of treatments and a gym has modern cardio and weight-training equipment. Wi-Fi is free throughout and wedding packages can be booked.
