Code is an upscale property with 40 villas situated on a forested hillside overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The nightlife of Chaweng is about 35 minutes away, which suits most guests here just fine as they are looking for a quiet escape. Bright, breezy, and modern villas come with one or two bedrooms, and all have full kitchens, separate living and dining space, and terraces overlooking the sea. The on-site restaurant gets mostly good reviews, and the infinity pool is a popular spot -- as is the spa. There's also a tennis court on-site, which is unusual in this area. Travelers who would prefer to be on the beach could check out the Sea Koh Samui Boutique Resort & Residences, which has similar rates with breakfast included.
Scene
Quiet, peaceful resort that's most appealing to couples seeking privacy
This small resort is quiet and peaceful, with just two buildings perched on the hillside overlooking the sea. There's not much in the way of public space except the restaurant/bar and pool. The small reception area consists of just the front desk and an upholstered bench -- a clue to the type of private vibe here, and exactly why it remains a popular spot despite its location at a remove from the beach. The style is bright and breezy throughout, with lots of white and wood. It's definitely not a place for travelers looking for nightlife and excitement, but those seeking a relaxing escape in the forest with beautiful views will likely be happy here. It appeals most to couples wanting to get away in privacy, but families, individuals, and groups also make their way here.
Location
Remote hillside location outside of Mae Nam, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand
This hotel is located on a hill on the north shore of the island overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. There's very little to do in the immediate area. It's about 15 minutes from the town of Mae Nam, Nathon Beach, and Santiburi Samui Country Club. The Hin Lat Waterfall is about 20 minutes away, as is Fisherman's Village. Chaweng and the airport are about a 35-minute drive southeast, for those looking to party at the town's loud bars. Chaweng also has the largest beach on the island. Farther south is Lamai Beach, a more laid-back town with it's own share of nightlife, as well as a pair of scandalously shaped rocks known as the Grandmother Grandfather Rocks. It's about 40 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Modern suites with full kitchens, dining areas, and terraces with beautiful gulf views
All accommodations are suites, with one or two bedrooms. Decor is tropical contemporary with a soothing, mostly white color scheme, modern teak furniture, and rugs atop white tile floors. Living areas with white leather sectionals are separated from the bedroom by a sliding frosted glass wall that can be left open or shut. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, air-conditioning, and fully equipped kitchens. A small dining table seats four. Refrigerators are stocked with water, soft drinks, beer, wine, and snacks. Bathrooms are small but modern and come with hairdryers, toiletries in large eco-friendly bottles, and walk-in showers (no tubs). Terraces are furnished with cushioned teak daybeds. All have views of the gulf.
Features
Restaurant and bar, outdoor infinity pool, tennis court, fitness center, spa
Despite this hotel's compact stature and laid-back vibe, there is a good handful of nice-to-have features, some of which are a bit surprising given its Koh Samui location. The on-site restaurant, Vanilla, focuses on fresh local ingredients. Cuisine is Thai and European, and all meals are served in the open-air space with teak tables. Breakfast has a huge selection of Western and Thai food, and gets rave reviews, though it's not included in room rates.A small infinity pool overlooks the sea with lounge chairs positioned to take in the views poolside -- a few buildings do crowd the foreground. Umbrellas provide shade. There's also an on-site tennis court -- surprising in a small Koh Samui hotel -- and a bright, compact gym with cardio and weight-training equipment, plus a steam room. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide a nice view and let in plenty of natural light. Cinnamon Spa offers a variety of massage treatments, as well as facials, body wraps and scrubs, and manicures and pedicures in an elegant Thai-style space. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property and there's a billiard room as well. Scooters are also available for rent and make getting to the beach quite easy, though a free shuttle runs there as well.
