Bottom Line

This small resort is one of the most popular mid-range picks on the island, thanks largely to its great views of the Chalok Baan Khao Bay. It is located up a steep drive, away from the village and beach crowds, giving it a secluded feel. Those looking for a quieter tropical getaway will appreciate it here, as long as they don't mind huffing and puffing up the hill after going to town and beach. The pool is quite small (though the outlook is truly terrific), the restaurant food gets high marks from guests, and rooms are simple but clean and charming. Comparable options in this price range include Ban's Diving Resort and the aptly named View Point Resort.

Scene

A small, quiet resort with great views, located up a steep hill

There isn't much of a scene at the Chintakiri; most guests at this quiet, romantic resort spend their time relaxing on their balconies, staring at the sea. The resort is tiny, and you'll only ever see other guests at the small restaurant or pool. The pool is a focal point, as it overlooks the entire Chalok Baan Khao Bay and has particularly spectacular views at sunset. Visitors at Chintakiri are almost entirely couples, though there is one Family Suite. The resort is best-suited to fitter guests, as to the tremendously steep drive leading to it guarantees some good exercise while here.

Location

Located on a hillside overlooking Chalok Baan Khao Bay, close to town but with steep access

The Chintakiri is located in Chalok Baan Khao village, Koh Tao's quieter town and beach. It's just off the main road through town, and across the street from the sand, but up an outrageously steep driveway that guests will most likely have to navigate on foot at one time or another. The resort sits on a hillside and looks out at a sweeping view of the pretty bay below.

Rooms

Contemporary Thai-style rooms with sea-view balconies

There are only 19 rooms at this tiny resort, and all have contemporary Thai design: quality white bedding, colorful accent pillows, and dark wood furniture (that is showing some wear). The balconies with deck chairs facing the ocean are the clear highlight, and the hillside location means many room views are exceptional. Most TVs are of the old tube-style variety, but higher-tier rooms come with larger TVs and DVD players. There is also one Family Suite suitable for larger groups. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, safes, and mini-fridges stocked with soft drinks, beer, and water. Bathrooms have walk-in showers, and sinks are typically separated, so that one guest can brush her teeth while the other is on the toilet. Toiletries include shampoo and soap.

Features

Swimming pool with sweeping panoramic views of the entire Chalok Baan Khao Bay below

This tiny resort has a small pool that's a great hangout spot. It overlooks the entire Chalok Baan Khao Bay below, and also has views of most of the south of the island. Cushioned loungers and umbrellas are available. The resort also has one very small restaurant and bar, serving up quality free made-to-order breakfasts. The food for lunch and dinner gets high marks, too, which is lucky, as many guests may choose to dine here to avoid tackling the steep driveway separating the resort from all the options in the town below.
