Bottom Line

Although the mid-range Aonang Villa Resort is the oldest resort in town, it's still one of the most popular choices. Straddling the beach and central Ao Nang, the resort is in a prime location and is a short walk to eating, drinking, and nightlife options. Rooms are nothing fancy, but they are some of the most spacious you'll find in Ao Nang. The resort also has two large swimming pools, a modern fitness center, and a kids' club with a playground along with a couple of excellent restaurants and bars.

Scene

Beach and holiday scene -- casual but crowded

The scene at the beachfront Aonang Villa is relaxed yet busy with vacationers. Daytime here sees plenty of sunbathers and the crowd is a mix of couples and families with children. A free afternoon tea with cakes and drinks for guests attracts a casual crowd. Things get a bit more dressed up for dinner at the seaside grill Lan Le. The most happening area of the resort is the Beach Bar, which has ambient colorful lighting, bean bag cushions, and a prime sunset viewing spot right by the beach walk. There are also gorgeous views of the towering cliffs above town from both of the swimming pools and from some of the west-facing rooms.

Location

Excellent beachfront location and near all of Ao Nang's nightlife, eating, and shopping

The Aonang Villa Resort occupies some of the best real estate in town, which isn't a surprise since the sprawling resort is Ao Nang's oldest property. The hotel sits in front of Ao Nang's best beach area and its front entrance is just off of the main road coming through the center of Ao Nang, which is packed with restaurants, bars, and shopping.

Rooms

Spacious but simple rooms in need of an update

The rooms at the Aonang Villa Resort are worn, with some older furnishings and fixtures. However, nothing is falling apart, and the living quarters here are certainly some of the most spacious you'll find anywhere in town. Superior Rooms don't have much in the way of views, but they do come with free Wi-Fi, cable TV, and small minibars. Deluxe Rooms are even bigger and have private balconies featuring either sea or pool views. Bathrooms in most rooms are compact and come with shower/tub combos.

Features

Two large swimming pools, kids' pool and club, fitness center, seaside restaurant, bar, and spa

The Aonang Villa Resort has two large swimming pools, each with its own kids' section. There's also a small kids' club with a playground and a small but modern fitness room with a variety of equipment. Restaurants include the Lan Le seafood grill, right on the beach and the White Elephant, an atmospheric Thai restaurant located in an old house. The Beach Bar has colorful lights and really comes alive after sunset, and there's also a lobby lounge. The on-site spa is housed in a teak building and offers massages and treatments. Wi-Fi is free throughout the resort.
