With a location right on sandy Playa del Duque, beautiful pools, several good restaurants, and a wide array of on-site amenities, the upscale Dream Hotel Gran Tacande is a great option for those looking to spend some relaxing days on the beach. Rooms are spacious, with classic decor, modern amenities, and balconies -- but some may find their style to be a little bland given the hotel's advertised luxury status. The hotel is large and popular among families, but somewhat quieter than other resorts in Costa Adeje.
Scene
A family-friendly beachfront resort with upscale amenities
Built at a right angle to one of the best beaches in Costa Adeje, Dream Hotel Gran Tacande offers families and couples an upscale, relaxing stay. While sprawling, the hotel only has 250 rooms, which can be considered medium-size by beach resort standards, and the vibe here is a little mellower than at comparable properties nearby. Decor is classic and upscale, with grand interiors featuring lots of wood and wrought-iron accents, local dark stone finishes, and cream-colored floors and walls. The lobby is striking, with a round central area topped by an octagonal skylight resting on four sets of double dark pillars, and exposed wooden beams. To the sides of the main lobby are several elegant hallways with burgundy accent walls, ceiling moldings, huge arched windows, and classic couches and armchairs in dark wood and cream-color upholstering. The outdoors are equally striking, with lush gardens and several large pools set against the backdrop of the ocean. The bar and one of the pools are located a little bit above the main pool deck and have the best views.
Location
Across the street from Playa del Duque, a lovely fine-sand beach
Dream Hotel Gran Tacande is located across the boardwalk from Playa del Duque, one of Costa Adeje’s best beaches. Famous Fañabé, known for its dark sand, is an easy walk away along the boardwalk. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and stores nearby, and a couple of large shopping malls can be reached on foot. Guests looking to explore other beaches can take a cab or drive to Las Américas, Los Cristianos, and La Caleta in less than 10 minutes, and those who prefer to use public transportation can take a bus to all of the area’s main beaches. Tenerife Sur Airport can be reached by car in 15 minutes, and by bus in about an hour. There is a bus stop a short walk away.
Rooms
Spacious, classic and bright rooms with balconies and modern amenities
Being at an angle to the beach means most rooms have at least partial ocean views, and a few have full beachfront vistas. About 150 of the 250 units here are Double Standard Rooms, and the rest are Junior Suites and Suites. The only differences between room types are the size, views, and a few amenities, but all units are spacious and bright, and feature furnished balconies. Free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and bathrooms with separate showers and tubs are all standard offerings, and Suites have jetted tubs. All rooms have mini-fridges, but note that storing outside drinks and food is not allowed -- instead, guests are given a list of refreshments that can be ordered to be brought to the room and cooled there. Room decor is classic, with traditional Canarian wooden furniture, some whicker accents, and canopy beds. It is attractive enough, but some guests may find this style a little bland and dated for the hotel's advertised level of luxury. Coffeemakers are available for an extra fee.
Features
Three pools, three restaurants, a fitness center, a spa, and a kids’ club
The hotel features two saltwater pools -- including a heated one -- as well as a whirlpool and a kiddy pool, all featuring ocean views, drink service, and aqua fitness sessions. Those who prefer quieter workouts can check out the fitness center -- offering a wide array of cardio and strength training machines -- or book one of the on-site tennis courts. Yoga and Pilates classes are also available. The spa offers a few treatment cabins, several hot and cold showers, and a heated indoor lap pool. While pleasant and relaxing, some areas in the spa are a little rough around the edges and in need of an update. The hotel offers several great dining options, including a buffet, an Italian restaurant, and an eatery serving up traditional Canarian cuisine. Breakfast and dinner are consistently praised by guests, but the lunch menus are limited and many guests choose to walk to one of the nearby restaurants. Half board rates are available, and include breakfast and dinner in the buffet restaurant. The kids’ club offers daily activities both indoors and outdoors. Freebies include Wi-Fi, cribs, and parking.
