Bottom Line

Costa Adeje Gran Hotel is a large, family-friendly hotel conveniently located a short walk from the beach, bars, restaurants, and shops. With three large pools, two restaurants (one particularly good), four bars, optional all-inclusive rates, a relaxing spa, and an attractive fitness center, the hotel offers a solid upscale resort-style stay in a central location. However, some guests may find rooms a little plain for a hotel that advertises itself as a luxury property, and extra fees can add up.

Scene

A large resort popular with families

The hotel’s 458 rooms are housed in three connected buildings built around a huge pool deck dotted with palm trees, grass patches, and loungers. Common spaces are large, airy and bright, and the lobby is easily one of the largest in this part of Tenerife. It features several seating areas furnished with cute wrought-iron and wooden couches and tables, striking wooden ceilings, several shops, and lots of plants. The overall feel is a little cavernous, but still luxurious and appealing. The meeting rooms are one floor above the lobby, and the rest of the common spaces are on the ground floor -- which is two floors up from the entrance -- including the pools, the sports facilities, the spa, and the restaurants. The hotel is popular with families, has all-inclusive meal plans, and features nightly entertainment, which means it may be a little less peaceful than some might expect. Those who want to sit quietly in the sun may want to check out the rooftop, complete with a pool, a clothing-optional section, ocean views, and a bar.

Location

A five-minute walk from two great beaches

The hotel is located on a four-lane avenue a couple of blocks from two beaches, including Fañabé, one of Costa Adeje’s most famous beaches. There are lots of bars, restaurants, and stores within a couple of blocks, and guests can easily walk to a larger upscale mall located close to the waterfront. Those who would like to explore other beaches can take a cab or drive to Playa del Duque, Las Américas, and La Caleta in less than 10 minutes. Those who prefer to use public transportation can take a bus to all of the area’s main beaches. Tenerife Sur Airport can be reached by car in 15 minutes, and by bus in about an hour. There is a bus stop right outside the main entrance.

Rooms

Spacious room with traditional decor, modern amenities, and balconies

The hotel features 458 rooms, 433 of which are standard units. All rooms are spacious and airy, and have similar traditional decor, with wooden furniture, light brown tiles, grey accents, and pillows in aquamarine hues. The overall feel is homey and cozy, but perhaps not as high-end and stylish as might be expected for an advertised luxury property, and some may find them downright dated. Flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, minibars, and air-conditioning are all standard amenities, and all rooms feature sitting areas with sofa beds and balconies. Bathrooms are spacious and feature double sinks, shower/tub combos, and a separate toilet room. Suites have a separate living area, somewhat larger furnished terraces, and electric kettles with free tea and coffee. Most suites also have jetted tubs. A few extra charges are worth noting, including for use of the in-room safe, and for upgrades to rooms with ocean and pool views.

Features

Beautiful pools, several dining options, a spa, a fitness center, and kid-friendly amenities

The most attractive areas at Costa Adeje Gran Hotel are probably the pool decks. The main pool area -- complete with two pools, a kiddy pool, a snack bar, and a juice hut -- is spacious and offers ocean views. There are entertainment and activities for kids during the day here, so it may be a little too busy for some. For a quieter day in the sun, guests may want to check out the rooftop pool, which also features a bar, as well as a clothing-optional area. Kids are allowed here, but it tends to be quieter. The spa is pleasant and relaxing, with a few treatment cabins, a hydrotherapy area, and a hair and nail salon. With a decent selection of machines, huge windows that let in lots of natural light, nice views of the grounds, and laminate floors, the fitness center is a pleasant spot for a workout. Alternatively, those who want to stay active outdoors can borrow one of the hotel’s loaner bikes, or book the tennis courts or the mini-golf course free of charge. The buffet restaurant gets mixed reviews from guests, but is decent overall and its breakfast is tasty. The a la carte restaurant is outstanding, but guests choosing an all-inclusive plan may want to note that there is an extra fee for eating here. The hotel also offers a kids’ club complete with a playground; an arcade; 10 meeting rooms, and free Wi-Fi throughout.
