Bottom Line

The 125-room Baobab Suites is an upscale hotel with a focus on design. Sunny, minimalist suites feature fully equipped kitchens, spacious decks with panoramic views, and sleek bathrooms. Many suites have outdoor hot tubs and private pools, but there are also two large communal pools with plenty of comfy loungers. The hotel’s three restaurants serve well-reviewed international cuisine, and the fitness center offers group classes, paddle and squash courts, and a small outdoor lap pool. There are also a kids’ club with activities and a spa offering a variety of services. Its location on a hill a 10-minute walk from Playa del Duque allows for great views and easy access to the beach, but the walk back to the hotel can be challenging for some. For a four-pearl option on the beach, check out the Dream Hotel Gran Tacande.

Scene

Sleek hotel with minimalist interiors and serene outdoors

Due to its white facade and clean lines, the hotel looks a little sterile and unexciting from the outside. However, past the main entrance the property is more appealing, featuring landscaped tropical gardens decorated with local black volcanic stones, and minimalist interiors with industrial-style influences. The main lobby is spacious and bright, consisting of floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides and a long, curved front desk made of different types of wood. A few small ottomans in purple, white, and dove-gray stand out against the white walls and anthracite-gray floors, while an exposed volcanic stone wall is a stylish touch. One level below the lobby is an airy lounge with an indoor-outdoor design, incorporating palm trees and sand. This beachy feel continues in the main restaurant, which is located on a beautiful wooden deck overlooking the town and ocean. Other common areas and the rooms offer panoramic vistas as well. One of these spaces is the sleek pool deck on the third level, which has stunning mountain and ocean views, plus several padded loungers and a few colorful umbrellas. The hotel sees primarily families because of the self-catering rooms, but couples also frequent the Baobab Suites.

Location

Situated on a hill, a 10-minute walk from the beach and the city center

Baobab Suites is located on a steep hill right outside the city center. Around the corner is a main thoroughfare leading to the beach and the more touristy areas in town. The walk to Costa Adeje is easy and short, but the walk back uphill can be challenging for some; taxis are available and inexpensive. Plaza del Duque -- one of the area’s largest shopping malls -- can be found a 15-minute walk away, and there are a few other smaller shops within a short walk of the hotel. The nearest beach is Playa del Duque, which can also be reached on foot in about 15 minutes. Other popular stretches of sand, including Las Americas, Fanabe, and Los Cristianos, are all about a 15-minute drive away. Additionally, the hotel is about a 10-minute drive from family-friendly attractions such as Aqualand Costa Adeje and Siam Park. The airport is 15 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Stylish, minimalist suites with full kitchens and great views

The hotel has 125 apartments, ranging from spacious one-bedroom units for three guests to huge four-bedroom penthouses for up to nine people. Decor is modern and minimalist in all units, featuring a stylish gray-and-white color scheme with pops of color in accent pillows, cabinets, or couches. Living rooms feature comfy, streamlined couches, large flat-screen TVs, and sound systems. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls let in ample light, plus sliding doors open onto large wooden decks with panoramic views of the mountains and/or the ocean, as well as at least two loungers and a table with chairs. All units have a full kitchen equipped with a stovetop, a fridge, a dishwasher, a microwave, a toaster, a Nespresso machine, a coffeemaker for drip coffee, and an electric kettle. Washers and ironing boards are also available in each suite. Additionally, Lago Suites have a hot tub on the terrace, and Mar units feature a hot tub and a private pool. However, some may find the glass-enclosed terraces overlooking the shared pools lacking in privacy. Sleek bathrooms have large walk-in rain showers, double sinks, and Rituals toiletries.

Features

Ample leisure facilities include two pools, a spa and fitness center, and a kids’ club

The hotel has multiple leisure facilities to keep guests occupied, with the two outdoor pools being the most popular. The Level 2 pool is bigger and has a small wading pool for kids, while the Level 3 one has better ocean views; both have lots of padded loungers and umbrellas. Additionally, there is a small outdoor lap pool at the hotel’s fitness center, located across the street from the main building. The gym features a small outdoor space with a handful of machines and a few spin bikes, while inside there's a movement studio for group classes. Paddle and squash courts, as well as personal trainers are also available. A sandy area has toys, a trampoline, and hammocks to keep kids busy, and a small restaurant serves healthy food and juices. The small spa has several treatment rooms plus a hair and nail salon, but lacks a hydrotherapy area. One of the hotel’s highlights is its kids’ club, housed in a large room with high ceilings and colorful decor. It offers plenty of activities daily, as well as toys and games. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. In addition to the gym's eatery, the hotel has two other restaurants, including a casual outdoor one, and a fine dining restaurant offering an international gourmet menu. A quality breakfast buffet is included in all rates, but there is also the option of having ingredients delivered to the suite in the morning for guests to cook their own breakfast at no extra charge.
