Bottom Line

The seven-story, mid-range Best Western Regency Suites is one of the best bargains on the beach, especially for those looking to cash in on a convenient, contemporary, and clean self-catering space. While Classic Rooms ring in standard for Tel Aviv, they're large and have separate bedrooms, kitchenettes with microwaves but no burners, and comfortable living areas with converter sofas. Guests have to pay for the continental breakfast, but private garage parking, Wi-Fi, 24-hour snacks and drinks in the lobby, and beach towels are free. Plus, the on-site gym has been known to woo guests from other hotels. Convenience factors include a lending library and family-friendly amenities on request. For a free breakfast, check out rates at The Lusky - Great Small Hotel next door.

Scene

Best Western with surprising boutique vibe and contemporary look

Originally built in 1993, the Best Western Regency Suites started out as an office building, which might explain its larger-than-expected rooms. Renovations between 2015 and 2017 included things like replacing carpets, furniture, kitchens, and bathrooms, and a successful refreshing of the lobby. Immediately walking through this property's side entrance reveals a space more stylish than expected from a mid-range chain hotel. Light music softly plays in the lobby, which is filled with contemporary cushioned furniture, zebra print, and colorful art on the walls. The bright space, modern furniture, and pops of color give this Best Western a boutique feel. Travelers looking for the reliability of a chain hotel but a change of scenery from the typical generic decor, this is a good start. An American airline company used to stay at a property across the street, but gradually switched to the Best Western Regency Suites thanks to popular features like the basement gym and large, self-catering suites.

Location

Across from the U.S. Embassy and a quick walk to the beachfront boardwalk

Best Western Regency Suites is located in the middle of Tel Aviv's beachfront hotel row. On HaYarkon, guests will have to walk a block down and cross a busy thoroughfare to reach the sands of Bograshov Beach. It's also a two-minute walk from London Garden, and across the street from the current U.S. Embassy. The numerous shops, bars, and restaurants off Ben Yehuda and HaYarkon streets are less than a five-minute walk away. - Three-minute walk to Ben Yehuda Street

  • Five-minute walk to the beachfront boardwalk
  • Six-minute drive to Tel Aviv Port
  • Six-minute drive to Rabin Square
  • Eight-minute drive to Old Jaffa
  • Nine-minute drive to Rothschild Boulevard
  • 11-minute walk to Dizengoff Street
  • 12-minute drive to Sarona Market
  • 14-minute drive to Carmel Market

Rooms

Large, bright rooms with kitchens and contemporary decor

While most of the hotel's rooms are actually suites, the Classic Rooms are standard guest rooms with wet bar kitchenettes that include small microwaves, mid-sized mini-fridges with small freezer sections, and kettles. These single-occupancy units are small compared to the rest of the hotel stock, though still fit a double bed. Bathrooms have stall showers and hairdryers. The majority of the rooms here are Executive One Bedroom Suites with Kitchenettes that can sleep up to four with their sofa bed. The simplistic black-and-white decor is contemporary, featuring white "wood" tile floors and pops of color in throw pillows and fun wall art. While the suite rooms are large, the bathrooms remain relatively small, equipped with walk-in showers and colored glass bowl sinks against white countertops and cabinets. Kitchens are basically expanded wet bar kitchenettes with additional counter space, plus pots and pans, but there are no burners or hobs. Two large flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and the rainfall showerheads give the units a modern feel. These rooms are front-facing toward the beach. Junior One-Bedroom Suites have a slightly more compartmentalized layout and feel more like apartments. Both of these rooms have queen beds. All rooms have ironing boards, laptop-sized safes, dishwashing items, and Sea of Spa Dead Sea mineral toiletries.

Features

Good freebies and gym, but no free breakfast

Two standout features here are the hotel's contemporary gym and free parking. The gym is bright, despite being several steps down in the basement. The LifeSpan machines are in great shape, plus there are a large TV set to fitness videos or music channels, LED running lights, and a small rubber-floored area with free weights and kettle bells. The water cooler, towel station, and punching bags are nice touches. Best Western Regency Suites also has free and spacious private garage parking that can fit 22 cars, a rare find for nearly any hotel in Tel Aviv. During our visit, there was talk of possibly starting to charge for parking, so check with the hotel directly. While it's not a completely standard practice, several Best Westerns have a free breakfast of some sort, but not this one. Guests who opt into the hotel's continental breakfast will get a continental dairy (no meat) buffet with a hot omelet station served in a small and sunny lofted room above the reception area. Guests can grab free snacks and 24-hour tea and coffee from the lobby station. Aside from a coffee machine, pastries, and fresh fruit, there's also an honor bar with beer, water, and wine. A few of the hotel's convenience features include cell phone rental, luggage storage, and lending library with English books and games, plus free use of a guest computer, faxing, and printing. Visitors can also take advantage of free property-wide Wi-Fi, free beach towels, and family-friendly features such as beach toys, baby beds, bassinet's, and high chairs on request. This is a 100-percent smoke-free and pet-free property.
