Scene
Clean and contemporary space with lots of light and good design
Built in 1994, this Hyatt Place started out as an AmeriSuites, which explains the larger size and layout of its rooms. In 2008, Hyatt took over the property. A soft renovation and upgrades were done in 2016, and included replacing the furniture and repainting the public spaces, and installing walk-in showers in the Standard King rooms. The lobby area is open and has a communal feel, thanks to the semi-private and divided seating spaces, several of which are topped with condiments and spices, doubling as dining areas. Expect blue and gray color palettes, and modern design touches like curved walls, hanging wood decor fixtures, and art prints on the walls. Like most hotels in the area, this place attracts mostly corporate travelers during the week with families and leisure guests on the weekends.
Location
Convenient location in south Tampa, near the airport, restaurants, and malls
This Hyatt Place has a convenient location, with several restaurants, two malls, and the airport all within the two-mile radius of the hotel’s free shuttle service. This is a high-traffic area in close proximity to the Howard Howard Frankland Bridge that connects to St. Petersburg and several beaches, and the Courtney Campbell Causeway that connects to Clearwater and its beaches.- Three-minute drive to International Plaza
Rooms
Large, suite-style rooms with good design and fresh style
Hyatt Place keeps it simple with 124 Standard Rooms with either one king or two double beds and noisy AC units. Rooms are larger than most, due to the junior suite-like layouts that give guests living spaces half-partitioned from bedroom areas. Furniture is contemporary, stylish, and sturdy. The L-shaped sofas convert into full-sized beds. Thoughtful touches include magnetic strips and leather rolling chairs at the work desks, 42-inch flat-screen TVs with plug-and-play inputs that swivels to face either the living rooms or beds, and wet bars with mini-fridges and single-cup coffeemakers. Vanities are outside the bathrooms, which feel tiny and cramped, even with just toilets and showers. Hairdryers and toiletries are provided. All rooms are carpeted, have blackout curtains, and have a handful of electrical outlets for charging. ADA rooms are available.
Features
Packed with thoughtful features for both business and leisure travelers
With a free breakfast and several made-to-order and grab-and-go options, guests here will not go hungry. Hyatt’s hot and cold breakfast buffet is served each morning with staples like fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, build-your-own breakfast bowls, and rotating additional items. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are available on request. The Galley Bar serves beer, wine, and a revamped made-to-order menu featuring Korean tacos, pulled pork sliders, pizza, and other bar bites until midnight. Cold, pre-made options like sandwiches, salads, and soft drinks from the refrigerator section are available 24/7. The outdoor pool area is small and, thanks to verdant palm landscaping, feels far away from the two parking lots it lies between. Loungers are stylish and in good condition, but there aren’t many of them. The rectangular pool is heated, open year-round, and maxes out at five-feet deep. The small, but well-equipped gym has free weights, towels, a water cooler, and disposable, recyclable headphones to plug into the four high-tech LifeFitness cardio machines. Business features include a free business center area with two computers and free printing, plus a large meeting room for up to 60 that can be configured as a classroom or roundtable. Catering is available and rental includes a free projector and screen, though speakers and otheraudiovisual equipment are extra. Odds and ends are available from the 24-hour reception and include items like phone chargers, nail polish, or toothpaste that can be borrowed, bought, or rented. Parking is free and the hotel also has a free shuttle that drops off and picks up anywhere within a two-mile radius, including the airport. A cruise port shuttle package is available for an extra fee, and includes roundtrip transportation from the airport and the cruise port terminal. Wi-Fi is free.
