Bottom Line

The two-pearl Taipei Morning Hotel is a smart choice for budget-minded travelers looking for design-forward accommodations in the Linsen area of Zhongshan District. The hotel is close to shopping and public transportation, but it isn't within walking distance of most top sights. Its 17 guest rooms range in style, from sleek with vibrant accents, to attractive, minimalist spaces with neutral tones. All units have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, electric kettles, and free instant coffee, tea, and bottled water. Amenities are very limited, but there's no charge to use the laundry room or lobby computer, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Travelers looking for a budget hotel with better amenities like free breakfast and communal kitchen might consider the C U Hotel.

Taipei Morning Hotel

Scene

Design-savvy leisure travelers seeking a stay that won't break the bank

Taipei Morning Hotel is housed on the fourth and fifth floors of an 11-story building. The reception area is appealing, with a cluster of vintage-inspired pendants, glossy, chrome tiling fronting the elevator bank, and a desktop computer tucked in a cozy corner nook. There are also magazines and tourist brochures for the taking. There isn't much seating, however, so it isn't typically a place where guests gather. The hotel draws couples and friends traveling in groups looking for accommodations that are affordable, but don't want to sacrifice style.

Location

Near restaurants, shopping, and public transit, but not within walking distance of top sights

Taipei Morning Hotel is in the Linsen area of the Zhongshan District, next to the southeast corner of Linsen Park and just east of Xinsheng Elevated Road. Several restaurants and decent shopping are close by, but most top sights are too far to walk.

However, there are good public transportation options. There's a bus stop across the street, Songjiang Nanjing MRT station is a five-minute walk east, and Zhonghsan MRT station is a 10-minute walk in the other direction. Taipei Main Station is one stop on the MRT from Zhongshan Station.

Both the Museum of Contemporary Art and Miniatures Museum of Taiwan are about a 15-minute walk away.  A monument to Taiwan's first leader, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, is 20 minutes by MRT, and Ningxia Night Market is a 23-minute ride using public transit. The 101-story Taipei 101 tower, which offers sweeping skyline views of the city, is a 25-minute MRT ride.

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is a 40-minute drive from the hotel. Many guests take the FreeGo bus from the airport to nearby Jilin Elementary School, and from there it's a three-minute walk to the hotel.

Rooms

Attractive and well-stocked, with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, but not all units have windows

Guest rooms at Taipei Morning Hotel are tidy, stylish, and have excellent amenities for a property in its category. Some are predominantly black and white, and have wall murals and prints with saturated hues like red and purple delivering a jolt of drama. Other spaces are minimalist-chic, with an all-neutral palette and white planters with greenery adding a pop of color.

All units have desks, 32-inch flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, slippers, electric kettles with free instant coffee and tea, plus free bottled water and Wi-Fi. Some rooms have daily housekeeping and DVD players. Sleek bathrooms have attractive square sinks, walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, and some have bathtubs. There are also hairdryers and toiletries. One drawback is that walls are transparent glass, but shades can be drawn for privacy.

Units range from 172 to 280 square feet. Some don't have windows, while others feature street views. All guest rooms are non-smoking.

Laundry room, lobby computer, and free Wi-Fi, but few other amenities

Features at this budget hotel are slim. There are no on-site eating options, but the hotel shares the building with a restaurant that offers Western cuisine for lunch and dinner, and there are numerous restaurants within a short walk of the hotel. But there is a laundry room and a lobby computer, which are free for guests to use, and free Wi-Fi throughout. There's a 24-hour front desk with security, and SIM cards with unlimited 4G internet for sale. The hotel has an elevator, and parking is available for a fee.
