Scene
Wooden cabins on Lake Tahoe
Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge looks like most of the wooden cabin hotel offerings in and around Lake Tahoe, but this property is more expansive with a private beach and dock, along with a grassy BBQ and fire pit area. Most of the buildings are chalet-like with two stories, wood-railed balconies, and green shutters decorated with wolf cut-outs. The lobby has a nice seating area with a flat-screen TV and fireplace. Pinecones rest on the mantel and pictures of wolves line the walls. Families and couples are the main clientele. It can be difficult to book a room in the summer but things slow down significantly in the off season.
Location
On Lake Tahoe
The Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge is located on a stretch of sandy beach directly on the northern shore of Lake Tahoe. There are hotels on either side of the property with a grove of trees across the street. The location is convenient to King's Beach and the Nevada border. Old Brockaway Golf Course is less than five minutes away while Heavenly Ski Resort is 25 miles away. The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is located 38 miles from the hotel. Parking is free and plentiful.
Rooms
Full kitchens and fireplaces with lodge-like touches
There are 27 apartment-style rooms at the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge. Choose from studios with a Murphy bed and one- or two-bedroom accommodations that sleep up to five people. Each full kitchen includes a refrigerator, stove, microwave, and cooking equipment, as well as a coffeemaker. The decor is all about cabin touches, like sofas upholstered with a moose motif and pine furniture. Flat-screen TVs, fireplaces, and private outdoor spaces (either a balcony or terrace depending on the floor) are standard. Stone floors look luxe in the bathroom, though shower/tub combinations and single sinks are pretty basic. The best rooms overlook the pool and beach while others face the parking lot. All of the rooms are non-smoking. None of the units are air-conditioned.
Features
Private beach, seasonal swimming pool, and water toys -- but no restaurant
Features at the Red Wolf Lakeside Lodge focus mainly on outdoor summer fun. The private beach is sandy but on the smaller side -- though free kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boats are great for exploring Lake Tahoe. The outdoor heated pool is flanked by comfortable lounge chairs. Note that this area is closed in the winter, though the hot tub stays open year-round. A grassy patch of lawn holds a BBQ grill, picnic tables, and fire pit. There isn't a restaurant or bar on-site. Coffee is served in the lobby. Wi-Fi is free only for owners of the apartments; everyone else gets charged a daily fee.
