Bottom Line

The 105-room Ibis Budget St Peters is an affordable, barebones budget hotel near the Sydney airport. Rooms are as basic as they come, with beds, flat-screen TVs, small vanities, compact bathrooms, and little else, though they do benefit from air-conditioning. Parking is free, and Wi-Fi and a buffet breakfast are reasonably priced. While it's not ideal for visiting Sydney, it's a reasonable place to stay for a night in between flights.

Scene

Budget hotel popular with airport overnighters and traveling construction workers

The Ibis Budget St Peters sees two major types of guests: budget travelers (both domestic and international) on layovers at the nearby airport, and construction workers stationed on nearby projects who need a cheap place to sleep in between shifts. Common areas are bright and simple, with light-wood tables and bright green chairs in the simple lobby, which doubles as a breakfast area. The exteriors are box-like, in line with the hotel's industrial surroundings, but the parking lot is spacious and guests shouldn't have any trouble finding a free spot to park.

Location

Off a busy road near the airport, a 20-minute drive to Sydney's city center

The Ibis is located just off a busy main road and is surrounded by factories and fast food places (it shares an entrance with a KFC), but there's little within walking distance besides factories and warehouses. It's a five-minute drive to the Sydney Airport and a 15-minute drive to the Central Business District. The Sydney Opera House takes 20 minutes to reach, while Bondi Beach is around half an hour away. There is free parking, but the location isn't the most convenient for exploring the city.

Rooms

Small, basic rooms with flat-screen TVs and tiny ensuite bathrooms

The 105 plain, barebones rooms at the Ibis Budget St Peters come with air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, tiny desks, small corner vanities with sinks, and little else. Bathrooms include toilets and narrow walk-in showers, and are only a hair larger than what you might find on an airplane. Rooms have either one queen or king beds, or two twins, although rooms with one queen bed and one single overhead bunk bed are also available. Some rooms look run-down, as is common with budget properties, and are in need of a sprucing-up. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel for a reasonable fee.

Features

Minimal features include breakfast and Wi-Fi, both for a fee, and free on-site parking

Amenities are limited at the Ibis Budget St Peters, although the hotel does have a laundry room with coin-operated machines, Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas (for a fee), and an all-you-can-eat continental buffet breakfast with cereals, breads, juice, and coffee (also for a fee). On-site parking is free and there's an airport shuttle available for a fee. Guests can access coin-operated laundry facilities as well.
