Bottom Line

This three-pearl property in the upmarket Sydney inner-west suburb of Drummoyne
has 15 individually designed guest rooms in a historic 1880 mansion. They are all spacious and light, and
have views over the city or the gardens. Wi-Fi is free but bathrooms are mostly shared and there’s no air-conditioning. Breakfast is included in the room rate,
and parking outside the property is free. The Drummoyne area isn't the most central, and trips downtown by ferry or bus take at least 15 minutes. It's worth
comparing with the TARA Guest House, which is a similar property with a bit more character in the Enmore
area, south of the city center.

Scene

Peaceful and elegant property with a homey feel

The Admiral Collingwood Lodge -- named after one of
Britain’s greatest wartime commanders -- is a heritage-listed Victorian mansion
set in pretty, landscaped gardens. Built in 1888, this relaxed boutique hotel -- it's essentially a bed-and-breakfast -- offers guests a peaceful stay in a homey atmosphere. The lodge has bright, elegant
decor and there is tasteful artwork and eclectic furniture in the hallways and rooms. Many original details have also been preserved and there are quirky design elements, like the collection of straw hats in the dining area.
Guests won’t be disturbed by young children here as they are not permitted, and most travelers come as couples or singles.

Location

In the peaceful inner-west suburb of Drummoyne

Set in the upmarket inner-west Sydney suburb of Drummoyne, the property is
a five-minute walk from a range of good restaurants plus a few shops. Although it’s outside of the
city center, getting in to see the sights is relatively painless. It’s a six-minute
walk to the Drummoyne Wharf ferry terminal. From there, ferries run every half hour and
take 12 minutes to get to Sydney’s Central Business District.
There are several bus stops near the property too, and they run every 10
minutes, taking around 15-minutes to reach downtown Sydney. Sydney Airport is
a 20-minute drive from the property.

Rooms

Large, light rooms with great views and shared bathrooms

The 15 individually decorated rooms at the lodge are light and airy.
They have a modern country style with a soft pastel decor that suits the
property’s history, alongside character-boosting features like original antique fireplaces. Expect to see charming details like woodsy framed art, whitewashed paneling, and hardwood floors. The look in some rooms is more basic than others, like the spartan Second Double Garden View Room that we visited. All rooms in the main house share bathrooms, while the TreeTops Studio and Garden Suite have their own en-suite bathrooms. Those on the top floor offer glimpses of Sydney Harbour
and the city’s skyline. Those on the ground floor overlook the colorful, manicured
gardens. Every room has free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV, electric kettles, a sink, mini-fridge, work desk, and bathrobes, though there's no
air-conditioning. Shared bathrooms area clean and simple, with tile floors, walk-in showers, and pump-dispensed toiletries. The TreeTops Studio has a kitchenette with an oven.

Features

Free breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi, plus pretty grounds and bike hire

Features here include a pretty garden with
outdoor dining area and barbecue facilities, plus a kitchen and dining room which
guests can use at any time. A continental breakfast is included in the room
rate and can be taken inside or out in the garden, and it's not unheard of for the odd cake or batch of cookies to greet guests when they return home on some days. Guests can hire bicycles
from the lodge and there are coin-operated laundry facilities as well. Parking is
available outside the property at no cost, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the building.
