Bottom Line

Hotel Marvel is a three-pearl hotel that's close to the beach, with two restaurants and a colorful 24-hour lobby bar. It has an indoor pool and a large outdoor pool area with a kiddy pool and swim-up bar, but doesn't have as much to do as some nearby hotels, and reviews on food quality and general upkeep are mixed. Its 330 guest rooms are spacious, with sofa beds and private balconies, but wear is visible on some of the contemporary chain furnishings and the overall look is dated. A spa with a hammam, a modest fitness room, and a meeting room round out the facilities. Breakfast is included, but Wi-Fi costs extra whether guests choose all-inclusive rates or not. Compare with DIT Majestic Beach Resort, one of the best hotels in the area for its position on the beach and its diverse, family-friendly amenities.

Scene

Large and pleasant outdoor pool area and a casual, family-friendly vibe

Hotel Marvel, painted in a frosty pastel green, is composed of three wings cradling a large outdoor pool area where all the action takes place. Like most hotels in the region, the building won't win any interior design awards, but guests—mostly couples and families with kids—choose the property for its spacious units and decent amenities. The hotel's main entrance has floor-to-ceiling windows and the lobby is spacious and functional for check-in.

Location

At the north end of Sunny Beach, a four-minute walk to the beachfront

Hotel Marvel sits off the beach surrounded by other hotels, in the quieter north end of Sunny Beach. It's about a four-minute walk to the beachfront along the Black Sea and a pedestrian promenade lined with shopping stalls, restaurants, and bars. Nearby family-friendly attractions include Action Acquapark water park and Sunny Beach Karting Track, both about a five-minute drive away. It's a 10-minute drive to Luna Park Sunny Beach amusement park, and the nightlife along Flower Street with its food stalls, restaurants and bars. The ancient Thracian settlement of Nessebar is less than a 20-minute drive away. The UNESCO World Heritage Site features an abundance of historic buildings, including a temple of Apollo, the sixth-century Church of Saint Sofia, and several churches from the medieval era. Burgas Airport is a 30-minute drive away, while Burgas city will take 35 minutes to reach.

Rooms

Large rooms with private furnished balconies, but some show wear

Most of the hotel's 330 air-conditioned rooms have pool or park views, though some rooms on upper floors have partial views of the Black Sea. All have private balconies furnished with white plastic tables and chairs. The decor is typical of less contemporary hotels in this range, with gray-brown carpets, cream walls, brown fabrics, and dark-wood furnishings. Standard rooms are large, starting at 322 square feet, with double beds or two twin beds, and seating areas with sofa beds and small tables. Upgraded units add larger living areas (and partial sea views), while suites have big separate living rooms with two sofa beds. Flat-screen TVs come standard along with mini-fridges, but there are no coffeemakers and in-room Wi-Fi costs extra. The bathrooms are covered in stone tiles, and have average shower/tub combos.

Features

Outdoor pool and kiddy pool, two restaurants, and a 24-hour bar, plus a spa

The top feature at this hotel is a large outdoor pool, which has a swim-up bar, a hot tub in the middle, and wraparound sundeck with plastic loungers and shade umbrellas. A children's pool with a basic slide is off to one side, and kids can make use of a small outdoor play house (with some supervised activities). Other wellness amenities include an indoor lap pool and an adjacent spa that has a hot tub, hammam, and sauna, plus a small fitness room. For dining, breakfast is free and the hotel offers all-inclusive rates. The main restaurant and bar has an outdoor terrace and serves regional dishes along with international cuisine, with regular theme nights providing entertainment. There's also a more casual buffet restaurant with a large outdoor terrace. A colorful 24-hour lobby bar with a bright lounge under an atrium, a meeting room that can accommodate up to 100 people, and free Wi-Fi in the lobby (fee for in-room) round out the property's amenities.
