With an elegant restaurant, a stunning atrium, and a lovely indoor swimming pool, the four-pearl Scandic Hotel Star Sollentuna is a well-rounded, stylish pick that's particularly well-suited to business travelers. Though most of the rooms are modern, some are in need of updates, and there have been complaints of cleanliness and maintenance issues. Moreover, rooms lack air-conditioning and only higher-category rooms include coffee- and tea-making facilities. The location might also put some tourists off from staying here, as the hotel is far from Stockholm’s city center (although there is a tram station nearby). Scandic Victoria Tower is a good alternative, as it's slightly closer to Stockholm and has a rooftop bar and stylish rooms.
Scene
Upscale business hotel with elegant public spaces, including a large, chic atrium
A brick facade broken up by vertical lines of windows marks the entrance to this upscale business hotel, which was built in 1986. Guests enter into a mezzanine area with white marble floors and columns and a large glass chandelier, while farther inside is a stunning atrium that houses the restaurant, a spiral staircase, and a lovely central bar. Purple, gray, and black contemporary velour chairs are placed on rugs throughout the space. Most of the public spaces are similar: sleek and chic. However, the hallways are dated and worn and as of late 2016, only around 70 percent of the 270 rooms had been recently renovated. Guests here are mostly business travelers in the area, though vacationing couples and families stay here as well for the amenities and proximity to a shopping mall.
Location
Far from Stockholm's city center, but close to a mall, Edsviken Lake, and public transportation
The location of the Scandic Hotel Star Sollentuna is less than ideal for tourists visiting Stockholm, as the city center is a 20-minute drive away. It’s better suited to travelers who have work or appointments in the immediate area. That said, for those who want to explore the city, there’s a convenient train stop across the street from the property. There's also a handful of restaurants on surrounding streets, and a few more in the Sollentuna Centrum, a mall just around the corner. It’s an 11-minute walk to Edsviken Lake, a nice place for a stroll or a jog. Bromma Stockholm Airport takes 20 minutes to reach by car.
Rooms
A mix of modern and dated rooms with flat-screen TVs and safes, but no air-conditioning
While there is a striking, design-driven look to the lobby and restaurant areas, lodging at Scandic Hotel Star Sollentuna varies between clean and chic rooms and dated units with cleanliness and maintenance issues. Updated rooms have gray tones with purple accents, flamboyant wallpaper, jewel-toned chairs, and ash-wood-finished floors, while the dated rooms have blond wooden floors, basic blond-wood furniture, and red statement walls. Even though decor in the unrenovated units is contemporary, they're lacking any decorative oomph. Some rooms are fairly cramped, but they try to maximize space with open-plan storage spaces and rods or hooks on the walls. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, and safes, but no air-conditioning or minibars. Junior Suites, Superiors, and Standard Plus Rooms have coffee- and tea-making facilities, while the Junior Suites also include private saunas and whirlpool tubs. Some guests have noted that thin walls let in bothersome noises from neighboring guests or the nearby train. Bathrooms are clean and stylish, with hairdryers, wall-mounted toiletry dispensers, and shower/tub combos or walk-in showers; some have separate showers and tubs.
Features
Extensive meeting facilities, business center, gym, restaurant and bar, and a snack shop

These include 11 fully equipped meeting rooms plus a business center with desktop computers and a printer. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Leisure amenities include an indoor swimming pool with city views and a co-ed sauna. The modern gym has four cardio machines, free weights, and a weight machine. A free breakfast buffet includes organic items, fair-trade coffee, and gluten-free options. Star Bistro & Bar offers lunch on weekdays and dinner every day except Sunday, but no room service. Kid-friendly perks include free stays for children under 13, a playroom, and welcome gifts for kids. The lobby has a small shop with snacks and personal care items. On-site parking is available for a fee.
