Bottom Line

Following the impact of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, this property is open with limited amenities and housing guests in need of lodging. They plan to open for leisure guests in February 2018. We will update our review as soon as we know more. Located right outside of the airport gates, the Lindbergh Bay Hotel and Villas (formerly Best Western Carib Beach) is a convenient and affordable accommodation option, especially for travelers staying a short time or continuing on to another destination. The rooms are typical of a mid-range hotel -- basic but functional with coffeemakers, hairdryers, and flat-screen TVs. The hotel went through extensive renovations in 2014 and newer bathrooms as well as upgrades to the pool, restaurant, and grounds are apparent. The on-site restaurant, Oceanside Bistro, is surprisingly good and the bar area is lively. However, the beach is small and you can’t swim there.

Scene

A mix of vacationers, business travelers, and island-hoppers

Due to its location close to the airport, a lot of guests stay at this hotel for a night or two before continuing on to another destination. There are also some business travelers here due to the convenience and affordability.

The hotel is set on multiple levels down to the water. The lobby is large with three seating areas as well as a single computer that is available for guests to use. The hotel gives you a free rum punch at check-in.

Most activity revolves around the pool area, which sits on the lowest level of the hotel. The pool has beautiful bay views and plenty of loungers. The restaurant and bar is next to the pool and is also popular.

Location

Practically in the airport

The hotel is located on a long drive up the hill from Airport Rd. The airport is small and the hotel is within walking distance. Plane traffic can be heard during the day, however, the airport closes at night so there are no flights after 10 p.m.

Its slightly removed location means that it is a long walk to catch taxis or public transportation. There aren’t many restaurants and amenities within walking distance, although the hotel does provide a free shuttle to the Emerald Beach Resort, which has an on-site restaurant and a nicer beach.

  • Five-minute walk to the airport
  • Eight-minute drive to duty-free shopping in Charlotte-Amalie
  • 10-minute drive to Blackbeard's Castle
  • 10-minute drive to Yacht Haven Grande
  • 12-minute drive to Paradise Point Skyride
  • 15-minute drive to Magens Bay
  • 15-minute drive to St. Peter Great House and Botanical Gardens
  • 17-minute drive to Mahogany Run Golf Course
  • 25-minute drive to Red Hook

Rooms

Basic and chain-like; nothing fancy

The rooms are typical of a chain resort -- basic and bland. There are light green comforters with floral bed runners, light wood furnishings including a desk and dresser, tile floors, heavy drapes, and neutral or nonexistent art. The rooms come with flat-screen TVs, safes, coffee- and tea-making facilities, iron and ironing boards, hairdryers, and basic toiletries.

The bathrooms, which were a major part of the 2014 renovations, are especially nice with clean tile floors and walls, stylish white vanities with new fixtures, and glass shelving.

The rooms are divided into three buildings. The cottages are a small set of rooms in a quaint one-level structure. Though they're smaller than rooms in the other buildings, they have patios with great bay views. The main building, where the lobby is located, is two levels and near the entrance of the property. The Seawing building is located at the top of the property and, true to its name, offers great views from the room balconies.

Features

Updated pool but a disappointing beach

The pool is located on the lowest level of the resort, right on the bay. The pool is on the small side but is scenic and attractive with beautiful views of the water. There are loungers around the perimeter and it’s not too crowded. The beach is a few steps down from the pool and is really only a small bit of sand held in by a concrete wall. You can’t swim here as there’s no real entrance into the water. The beach only has a handful of lounge chairs. The hotel provides a free shuttle to Emerald Beach, which has a much nicer stretch of sand. Island Beachcomber Hotel next door also offers cheap rooms but has a beautiful beachfront.

Oceanside Bistro, the Best Western's on-site restaurant, is located next to the pool. The bar is lively and fun, with many guests redeeming their free rum punch or catching a drink in the evening. The food is Caribbean-inspired, affordable, and delicious. The restaurant is open air and offers great views of the bay as well.
