Sapphire Beach Resort
Rte. 6 Smith Bay, Smith Bay Road

**This property was impacted by *Hurricane Irma* in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. **The beach is Sapphire Beach Resort’s main draw. It's on one of the best stretches of sand on the island, and the water is clear, turquoise, and calm; the view from the beach is stunning -- St. John and other satellite islands are visible in the distance. The resort is conveniently located one mile up the hill from Red Hook, where there are shops and restaurants. There aren’t, however, many property amenities -- there is a fee for Wi-Fi, not many places to eat on the property, and no fitness center, business center, or spa. The units at the resort are individually owned and managed by different companies, so the quality of the rooms varies greatly.

The Ritz-Carlton
6900 Great Bay

The Ritz-Carlton is St. Thomas' classiest resort, located only five minutes from Red Hook's fun dining and yacht scene. Its private sailboat, fitness center, spa, and soft-sand beach -- a marine-life sanctuary -- are all among the best in St. Thomas. But the food and service don't compare to swankier Ritzs elsewhere.

Villa Marbella Suites
15-24 Frenchman's Bay

Following the impact of Hurricane Irma in September 2017, this property is closed for repairs, but will have most of its rooms available starting January 10, 2018. Villa Marbella Suites is located on Frenchman’s Bay on the south coast of the island. It's a tiny hilltop property with only four rooms, giving it a relaxed, intimate atmosphere, and every unit offers gorgeous views of the bay, Charlotte-Amalie, and the surrounding area. The rooms are stylish yet homey and all have fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers as well as beach towels, coolers, and bags. Property features include a pool with terrific bay views and a  gas grill, but no restaurant or beachfront -- and there's not much within walking distance. The property feels like a bed-and-breakfast, minus the breakfast, and as rates are cheaper than at most inns in the area, it's a great value.

Paradise Cove Oceanfront Villas & Suites
2GA Ridge Road, Estate Nazareth

**This property sustained significant damage during *Hurricane Irma* and is currently closed for repairs until February 2018. We will update our review as soon as we have more information.** Paradise Cove is a small 21-room property on the East End of the island. Around the corner from Red Hook on a quiet side street, the property is serene and peaceful. There are stunning views of Nazareth Bay throughout the resort and a distinctive tearoom is both convenient and delicious. While the rooms in the Escape building are nicely updated (and pricier), the other rooms are dated and in need of a facelift. However, the resort is still a good mid-range option for those looking to save some money in the pricey Red Hook area.

Bluebeard's Beach Club and Villas
7511 Frenchman Bay # 100

**This property sustained major damage from *Hurricane Irma* and Hurricane Maria in September 2017. It is currently closed through 2018. We will update our review as soon as we have more information**. This mid-range time-share property managed by Wyndham is an older hotel that’s showing its age. Despite modern updates in the rooms -- granite counters, new appliances, bright green bedding -- the mildewy showers, leaking toilets, and fickle air-conditioning units indicate the property’s deteriorating condition. However, Bluebeard's sits on a gorgeous beach and has a mid-size pool with a lively swim-up bar. As far as amenities are concerned, there’s an on-site bar and restaurant that serves mediocre food and drinks (there are no other options within walking distance), as well as a small fitness center and a tiny mini-market. Wi-Fi will cost you a pretty penny, as will the daily resort fee. Travelers looking for a similar hotel with nicer features should check out sister property Elysian Beach Resort, which is typically pricier but lacks the mildew and plumbing problems here.

Two Sandals by the Sea Inn - Bed & Breakfast
6264 Estate Nazareth

Perched atop a steep driveway, Two Sandals by the Sea Inn - Bed & Breakfast feels like one part inn and one part home. Each of the six crisp and contemporary rooms features modern nice-to-haves like free Wi-Fi, minibars, and flat-screen TVs, plus optional water-view balconies. As a tiny, two-and-a-half-pearl property, amenities are limited to a communal balcony with water views and a simple breakfast featuring popular items like homemade scones. The restaurants, shops, and ferry terminal of Red Hook’s tourist-friendly waterfront district are all eight minutes away on foot. Guests willing to spend a bit more will find plenty of resort amenities at the beachfront Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, though it lacks Two Sandals' intimate atmosphere.

Crystal Cove Beach Resort on Sapphire Bay
Estate Smith Bay

**This property was impacted by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. **Crystal Cove Beach Resort on Sapphire Beach has distinctive pros and cons. Situated on gorgeous Sapphire Beach, this stretch of sand is one of the best in the Virgin Islands -- clear, turquoise, and calm, with great snorkeling and lots of sea life. The property also has a large pool and tennis courts and offers condo-style living at an affordable price. However, this is an older property and many of the units are dated with cheesy wicker tropical furnishings, floral bedspreads, and old kitchens.
