The exterior of the Coconut Inn looks like a modern bed and breakfast; it's a large, two-story house made of brick and white siding, surrounded by a white picket fence and plenty of plants. Also along the perimeter are old-fashioned-style bicycles with baskets, which guests can borrow for free. The inn’s brick courtyard is inviting, with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, a fountain, palm trees, a small gazebo, and a porch swing. The brickwork continues onto the deck of the small outdoor pool, which has a maximum depth of four feet, and a spa cove. Inside, the lobby is smaller and more low-key than that of larger hotels -- with just a desk, arm chair, flat-screen TV, and display case of hotel T-shirts for sale.

The property is about a 20-minute drive from the museums, restaurants, and nightlife of downtown St. Petersburg.
