Palm Court Hotel wasimpacted by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. We will update our review as soon as we have more information. The three-pearl Palm Court Hotel has a simple, laid-back charm, though the best feature just might be the two-minute walk to Orient Beach. Expect to see tranquil gardens with hammocks and stone pathways throughout this impeccably clean and quiet property. The 21 rooms are spacious and bright, with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. All feature balconies or terraces leading out to the pool. With a free poolside continental breakfast and a small library, features aren't too numerous, though there are plenty of restaurants all around. The hotel also has deals with two beach clubs for free chairs and umbrellas. Travelers looking for more on-site dining and nightlife might check out Hotel La Plantation instead, which has more amenities, but sometimes higher rates.
Scene
Tranquil, simple hotel with quiet gardens and limited social vibe
The Palm Court Hotel is a simple place to unwind after long days spent at the nearby beach. Situated behind a high fence and a locked, rolling gate, guests enter this tranquil spot with a key or a passcode -- many find this measure of security to be a major plus. Once inside, the decor is colorful and cheery, with bright reds, yellows, and greens alongside modern black wicker furniture by the pool. A wooden, planked walkway leads to the small lobby, while stone pathways mark the path to the main hotel building, gardens, and pool terrace. During the day, music plays by the pool terrace for travelers wanting to hang out and socialize, with a small bar opening in the afternoon for a happy hour. The vibe throughout the hotel is calm and quiet overall, and there are gardens and a small library for guests who want even more places to relax. The hotel is aimed at couples looking for a quiet place to decompress within a quick walk of the beach.
Location
A two-minute walk to Orient Beach, near plenty of restaurants and bars
Palm Court Hotel has an enviable location on a quiet side street in Orient Bay on St. Martin’s French side. The hotel is a two-minute walk to the shops and restaurants of Orient Village, and it takes the same amount of time to reach the three mile stretch of white sand along Orient Beach. Two beach clubs have arrangements with the hotel to use chairs and umbrellas for free (but keep in mind that these seats are in back rows). Guests should note that while Orient Bay quiets down at night, the area is safe for pedestrians (though not particularly well lit). The small cruise town of Philipsburg, on the Dutch Side, is a 25-minute drive away, while the French Capital, Marigot, is a 20-minute drive from the hotel. L’Esperance Airport is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, but travelers should allow 40 minutes for travel time to the larger Princess Juliana International Airport.
Rooms
Spacious and bright rooms, all with balconies, small kitchenettes, and flat-screen TVs
Rooms at the Palm Court Hotel are pleasant and clean, with colorful decor and touches of modern Caribbean style. Expect to see dark red accent walls, white tile floors, dark mahogany furniture, and black wrought-iron sofas with yellow cushions. Spacious layouts feature king beds or two doubles with dark wooden headboards and brightly striped bedspreads that match the drapes. The highlights are the spacious balconies or terraces, furnished with lounge chairs and cafe tables. Each room includes a small kitchenette with a hot plate, mini-fridge, coffeemakers, and dishware. Flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, and microwaves come standard, along with free Wi-Fi. The closets are a bit small and don't provide much storage space, but dressers help offset this shortage. Bathrooms are spacious and well-appointed, with roomy standing showers and plenty of vanity space plus towels, toiletries, and hairdryers.
Features
Free continental breakfast, outdoor pool, free beach club access, and free Wi-Fi
As a boutique-size property, Palm Court Hotel offers a pared-down list of amenities. A daily poolside breakfast includes a mix of free continental fare -- cereal, fresh fruit, and pastries -- as well as some hot dishes like eggs and pancakes for an additional fee. The small restaurant isn't open for lunch or dinner, but does open for happy hour later in the afternoon. The moderately sized pool terrace has plenty of green and yellow cushioned lounge chairs and a handful of black wicker chairs plus cafe seating. A small library and meeting room is situated at the back of the hotel, and features couches and chairs for guests to use. The standing shower, toiletries, and towels are an especially nice extra for guests going to the beach after checking out. There are tranquil gardens with hammocks and wrought iron tables and chairs, and for those who prefer relaxing on the beach, the hotel has deals with two beach clubs for free chairs and umbrellas. Just keep in mind you won't be seated in the front rows. Additionally, some beachside restaurants allow guests to bill directly to their rooms -- so check ahead. The adequately sized parking lot is gated, and parking is free. Wi-Fi is also free throughout the hotel. Guests should note that the front desk only offers limited hours.
