Bottom Line

**Alamanda Resort was impacted by *Hurricane Irma* in September 2017. The hotel is currently closed and plans on reopening in fall 2018.** Alamanda Resort is a 42-room mid-range property with an unbeatable location in Orient Bay, an upscale community that has several hotels, restaurants, and one of the island’s best beaches. The resort isn’t located directly on the beach -- the sand is a two-minute walk across a quiet road; many rooms in the hotel have ocean views. The resort has a large pool, free Wi-Fi, and includes a continental breakfast in the room rate. The room furniture, however is basic and rustic, and the rooms look a bit tired. Guests might also want to also check out the Hotel La Plantation, which has similar rooms and a chic pool with a lounge-like setting, and it’s cheaper. Marquis Boutique Hotel in Anse Marcel has similar rooms for a cheaper rate, but they are not on the beach.

Scene

A quiet, laid-back property, without a lot of bells and whistles

The Alamanda Resort is made up of two-story creole-style
buildings with bright, colorful balconies. The hallways are open-air and beachy, and the property is relatively compact. The small lobby sits at the center of the resort, and is
usually bustling with activity. The lobby has two seating areas with couches, a small
book collection, and a table filled with island information. The pool is located through the lobby. There is also an outdoor seating area
where guests eat breakfast. With only 42 rooms, the resort is quiet and laid-back. Most
guests choose to go to the beach across the street, and the pool is rarely
crowded. Alamanda doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of a large resort -- there is no fitness center, business center, or spa -- the location is the main feature. The property has more of a hotel than a resort vibe.

Location

A two-minute walk to Orient Beach, one of St. Martin’s most scenic and popular beaches

The Alamanda Resort is located in Orient Beach, within a two-minute walk of the sand, down a quiet road. Guests
staying at the resort can use the lounge chairs and umbrellas of one of the restaurants at no extra charge. There is plenty of parking, and the
location is safe. The Orient Bay neighborhood is monitored by a security gate
off the main road, and the area is suitable for families or solo travelers. There
is a small village within the neighborhood that has restaurants, a small
grocery/convenience store, gift shops, and a laundry. The numerous hotels and
beach bars in the area provide plenty of dining options within walking
distance.- 30-minute drive to Princess Juliana International Airport

Rooms

Clean, rustic charming but dated rooms

The rooms at Alamanda have a Mediterranean design and style, with older red-brown tile floors and arched doorways. Rooms have kitchenettes, with two electric burners, small circular sinks, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and microwaves, although they could use some updating. The cabinets are filled with glasses, plates,
bowls, and eating utensils. The bedrooms are spacious, with two double beds or king beds, large dressers, tables with two chairs, and armchairs. The beds have
white comforters and red accent pillows. The rooms have red lamps, red cushioned wicker furniture, and red plaid curtains. While the rooms are homey-looking,
they're more rustic than modern. The two-bedroom duplex is large but has the same dated wicker decor as the other rooms. The Presidential Suite, one of the two high-end suites, has some snazzy touches like a large
canopy bed, wraparound balcony with ocean views, and an expansive seating area
with a couch. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms have bright-green accent tiles, separate tubs, small toilet areas through arched doors, and large vanities. They come with hairdryers and toiletries.

Features

Free continental breakfast and a spot on gorgeous Orient Beach

Alamanda Resort is within a two-minute walk of Orient Beach, one of the most popular beaches on the island, with white sand and turquoise-blue water -- the location is the major feature here. The mountains on the north side of the
island are visible to the left. The pool area, while nice, quiet, and relaxing (most guests seem to go to the beach), is nothing special. The pool has
an attractive circular design, and loungers under straw umbrellas sit along the
perimeter of the pool. The hotel provides poolside drink service but guests complain it's tough to find staff to take orders. A continental breakfast, which includes
coffee or tea, juice, fresh fruit, and a basket of bread and pastries, is included in the room rate. Eggs,
bacon, and other breakfast items can be added for a supplement. Breakfast
is served in a shaded area outside of the lobby and in front of the pool. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel
although guests say that it can be spotty.
