Opened in December 2007 as St. Lucia's first private residential yacht community, The Landings is one of the island's most luxurious boutique resorts. Upon entry, it’s obvious that the developer spared no expense in the construction of the pavilion lobby, which boasts towering ceilings, polished marble floors, and a carefully curated decor that’s understated and elegant. Most of the owners of the development’s 72 residences choose to place them in the rental program. The spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas cater to families and traveling couples, offering a homey atmosphere that is quieter and more personal than nearby mega-resorts -- just don't expect a huge list of activities.

An upscale villa resort with luxury amenities and understated style
The residential feel paired with a scenic location and luxury amenities make the Landings attractive to a mix of families, business people on corporate retreats, and couples.
The impressive five-story pavilion lobby, where guests consult with the concierge and grab a ride via golf cart, features a cascading wall of water, towering columns surrounding a sunken lounge, polished marble floors, and a carefully curated decor that’s understated and elegant but still distantly Caribbean. On the second floor is a serious gym outfitted with top-of-the-line equipment and a 7,000-square-foot spa with intimate treatment rooms and outdoor relaxation spaces that overlook the marina and Caribbean. Also within the lobby's grand foyer is an open-air bar and The Palms, the hotel’s fine (and pricey) dining restaurant.
While the lobby is beautiful, the real scene-stealer at The Landings is a short walk down the boardwalk (or even quicker ride in a golf cart): the beach, an 800-foot stretch of white sand with views of Pigeon Island in one direction and Rodney Bay in the other. Guests can stop by the water sports hut to arrange equipment for snorkeling or sailing, but most seem to settle in to the lounge chairs under blue umbrellas at the palm-tree lined beach. The adjacent Beach Club is a sprawling, open-air restaurant with views of the causeway and the Caribbean. A small onyx bar turns out drinks for guests sitting in the adjacent lounge area as well as those dining and relaxing at the beach.
Other notable spots at the resort include three pools. The largest, adjacent to the Beach Club, has two sheltered hot tubs overlooking the causeway. Two other, smaller pools are near the tennis courts and tucked within the buildings surrounded by landscaping. With each residence offering a whirlpool or plunge pool, guests also have the opportunity to soak in privacy.

The resort’s entrance is located in a somewhat desolate setting at the entry to the Pigeon Island Causeway, a man-made stretch of beach that was erected in 1972 to connect historic Pigeon Island to the main land. The restaurants, shops, and bars in Rodney Bay Village are a quick cab ride but it is a 90-minute drive to Hewanorra, the island’s major airport.

The Landings' 80 spacious (950 to 2,300 square feet) one-, two- or three-bedroom villas are set in three-story buildings, offering either a marina or ocean view, or a beachfront location. Individual owners have the freedom of decorating the villas to their personal tastes, but most stick to a modern, neutral palette with rich and patterned fabrics, mahogany and rattan furniture, stone tile work, and colorful and glitzy accents such as coral-colored accent pillows and oversized decorative wall mirrors.
Open layouts feature living rooms with LCD flat-screen TVs, work desks, and a collection of sofas and chairs arranged for socializing. Large dining room tables are completed by formal but not fussy Tuscan-style chandeliers. Breakfast bars with stools separate the dining areas from the kitchens, which are outfitted with granite countertops, Tuscan tile mosaics, upscale appliances, and plenty of glassware and tableware.
In each unit, a wall of sliding glass connects the living area to a huge outdoor terrace with another dining table, cushioned lounge chairs, and a jetted whirlpool or plunge pool. Privacy hedges frame ground-floor terraces while those on the upper floors feature decorative railings and unobstructed views.
Master bedrooms have king-size four-poster beds with glass doors that open to a recessed part of the terrace with two lounge chairs. The second bedrooms in the two-bedroom villas feature two twin beds while the three bedroom villas have an additional king-sized bed. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms finished with neutral-colored Italian stone tile, glass-enclosed showers, and separate tubs, ideal for soaking.

The resort offers a line-up of luxury amenities that include the 7,000-square-foot Soleil Spa, an adjacent fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, and two floodlit tennis courts with a on-site pro. Dining options include an upscale restaurant, a swank lobby bar, and a more casual beach club restaurant with a small bar and lounge overlooking the Caribbean; guests can also drive 10 minutes to access more than 30 restaurants and bars in Rodney Bay Village.
A water sports hut helps guests plan activities and excursions while 800 feet of white sand dotted with lounge chairs and umbrellas tempt guests to stay and relax. Three pools, including one adjacent to the Beach Club, offer additional locations to relax.
Those arriving by boat can secure a mooring at the marina. Golf carts and water taxis are used to shuttle guests around the resort. When it's time to head to the airport, the resort can arrange a helicopter transport.
