Car required to reach historic St. Augustine
The Hampton Inn St. Augustine Vilano Beach is located in a calm, quiet neighborhood. Room design is a strange mishmash of colors, including banana yellow walls and purple blinds. On the other hand, rooms and suites are spacious, with kitchenettes and flat-screen TVs, and some have balconies with great ocean views. The big outdoor pool surrounded by palm trees, and the close proximity to Vilano Beach, are both highlights. Freebies include Wi-Fi, parking, and a hot breakfast, but some guests complain about the fact that a car is required to reach historic St. Augustine.
Location
In Vilano Beach, a block away from the water and a short drive from historic St. Augustine
The Hampton Inn is located steps from Vilano Beach, known for sand and waves. The area is safe (if a little sleepy) and mostly residential with a few shops within walking distance, but a car is required to access most of St. Augustine's sites, shops, bars, and restaurants.Nicknamed the "Ancient City," St. Augustine is the oldest continually occupied European-established city in the country. This Florida city has a romantic vibe with streets lined by beautiful architecture. Some buildings date back to the 1600s while "newer" structures from the 19th-century still celebrate the Spanish colonial style but on a larger and grander scale.St. George Street is the main street of St. Augustine's historic district. Almost all attractions center around the city's history; Castillo de San Marco, the oldest masonry fort in the US, attracts visitors, as does the Markland Mansion, and even the original Ripley's Believe It or Not! is housed in a historic mansion. The historic district has a compact but lively nightlife with one of the most popular activities being ghost tours. Anastasia Park has some of the best beaches in the area, as well as a lagoon and several hiking and walking trails.- 11-minute drive to Northeast Florida Regional Airport
