This lovely mid-sized, mid-range property located on the main street, just minutes from the Zion Visitor Center, offers the same qualities that mark the best hotels in Springdale -- such as riverside access to the Virgin River, incredible views of the surrounding sandstone cliffs, and a convenient location for visiting the national park. However, it is the Cliffrose's splendid gardens and grounds that make it stand out from the pack. The heated pool/whirlpool, pillow-top beds, and substantial free breakfast also add to the list of amenities that make this hotel a favorite among repeat guests. However, it lacks a full restaurant and a gym.
Scene
A family-friendly little Garden of Eden
This hotel appeals to the outdoorsy types who still appreciate a clean, modern room. This property is called the Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens for a reason. The grounds are amazing which helps to extend the nature element of a Zion vacation well beyond the borders of the nearby national park. It is not unusual for visitors to share their surroundings with an occasional deer, hummingbirds, or other wildlife. It is even possible to pick fruit -- like fresh pears -- from the trees on the property. The exterior is somewhat nondescript in places with buildings having a rather boxy construction and wooden accents, but the unobtrusiveness of this style actually allows it to blend effortlessly into the sandstone setting. The lobby is tiny but elegant with white couches, hardwood floors, high ceilings, and lots of windows and it contains a small lounge where guests can enjoy a drink while taking in the abundant views of the cliffs.
Location
Near the south entrance of Zion National Park
Located on Zion Park Boulevard, the main drag through Springdale, the Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens is adjacent to other businesses, restaurants, and shops. It's just a two-minute walk from the entrance to Zion National Park which means this hotel is pretty much perfectly situated for those seeking modern conveniences and natural splendor. Plus, the Virgin River borders the property on the backside -- complete with a sandy "beach" and sun chairs -- for those wanting to "play" in the water. Since it's quiet at night but still well lit, many repeat guests say it gives them the best of both worlds.
Rooms
Clean with comfy pillow-top mattresses, balconies/patios, and modern perks
Capturing the allure of the sandstone cliffs outside, the room interiors at this hotel are decorated with a reddish-orange accent wall, plush furnishings, and rich colors. Leather couches and chairs give guests a place to crash comfortably, and the pillow-top beds allow tired hikers to get a good night's sleep. The free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV with satellite channels, AC, and coffeemaker further ensure each guest's comfort. The bathrooms are rather standard but have nice marble counters and environmentally-friendly toiletries. Each room has either a balcony or patio (typically overlooking the Virgin River), allowing for tranquil outside views of the grounds and majestic park beyond. Though some standard rooms are a tad small, there are also suites and villas (with multiple bedrooms and full kitchens and refrigerators instead of mini-fridges) available on this 50-room property as well.
Features
A waterfall whirlpool, free breakfast, pinic area, and business center (if you must)
If business is part of your Zion trip, you can find a 24-hour business center with two computers, and small conference facilities on this property. However, the seasonal heated pool and waterfall whirlpool may be a bigger draw thanks to the sweeping views and welcoming sun loungers. The substantial free breakfast is very popular and served in the breakfast room with patio seating. BBQ grills, fire pits, and other picnic setups are scattered around the property for guest to use as well. In the busy season, the park operates shuttles that take visitors into the deep Virgin River canyon which is closed to car travel, making it very convenient for guests since the transport stops right in front of the hotel. And there is on-site laundry (which can be a blessing for washing up dirty hiking clothes), but no fitness center or full restaurant.
