The Hotel Laurin is a small and upscale chalet-style hotel set in the center of Selva Gardena village with heaps of mountain charm, even if a couple of alpine touches border on the generic. The pool is particularly nice, and the four on-site saunas can't fail to impress, but there are no spa treatments on offer. Rooms are modern yet cozy and many include partial mountain views. Note that the hotel is only open in summer and winter months. Rates are pricey by any standards and panoramas are better at the nearby Granvara Relais & Spa Hotel, but there's certainly plenty here to make this hotel worth considering.

Chalet-style facade with charming log cabin chic and friendly ambience
Similar to many such hotels in the area, the Hotel Laurin is housed in a chalet-style building complete with traditionally alpine gently sloping roofs and wooden balconies. The mood inside the lobby is inviting and playful. A fake log fire, animal-skin rug, and solid wood ceilings gives a certain log cabin-chic, albeit with a somewhat generic flavor. For the most part, the hotel delivers on its "small and charming" tagline, with plenty of cozy nooks and homey touches such as floral still-life paintings and grandfather clocks. The elevator walls have forest-scene panels that give it the feel of an enchanted woodland, in stark contrast with the hotel's bare hallways. This family-run hotel, however, exudes enough of a warm, friendly ambience and charm that it's easy to overlook such inconsistencies. Note that the hotel is only open from December until mid-April and mid-June until mid-September.

The Hotel Laurin is located in the center of the pretty village of Selva Gardena in northern Italy's Tyrol Dolomites mountain range. It's surrounded by the stunning Sella and Sassolungo Mountains and is a couple of minutes' walk to the Ciampinoi gondola lift in the heart of the famous Sella Ronda ski circuit. There are plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants in the immediate area, including a ski school and ski rental shop. A bus stop right outside goes to the nearest railway station, Bolzano, a one-hour drive away. The nearest airport, Bolzano-Dolomiti, is a couple of minutes' drive beyond the train station.

The hotel's 27 rooms are all soundproofed and decorated in a fresh, modern yet homey style, with simple pine furnishings, crisp white walls, and carpeted floors. Flat-screen TVs with satellite channels come standard, as does free Wi-Fi, and some rooms also include an electric log-effect fireplace and a balcony or a terrace with partial mountain views. Bathrooms are spacious, with contemporary design fixtures and high-quality toiletries. Most also include tubs though some have see-through doors.
