Gansevoort Dominican Republic

Gansevoort Dominican Republic is a stylish resort offering a lavish experience for the well-heeled, with two pools, a spa, and a couple of scenic dining venues -- plus a free breakfast that is exceptional. The hotel has direct access to Playa Imbert, a half-moon-shaped stretch of golden sands. This private beach is small and somewhat rocky, but attractive. Guests have free use of non-motorized water sports equipment, such as snorkeling gear, paddleboards, kayaks, and Hobie cats. Beachfront yoga classes are also hosted here. The town’s main beach, Playa Sosua, is five minutes away by car. Although sex tourism is quite prominent in Sosua, Gansevoort is located far enough from downtown that guests are unlikely to see prostitution in the immediate area.

Casa Marina Beach Resort

Sosua, Dominican Republic

Casa Marina Reef Beach & is a mid-range all-inclusive hotel with lovely oceanfront location. In fact, the location technically has two beaches. Guests who like to body surf will enjoy the warm waves on the northernmost beach, while families with kids may prefer the calmer waters on the southern beach. Both beaches are soft and sandy, and the water -- though not crystal clear -- is a pretty shade of blue. Plenty of plastic lounge chairs are up for grabs, and beach umbrellas can be rented for a small fee. A rocky cliff area between the two beaches offers hammocks, lounge chairs, and a series of small pools, which makes for a cozy tropical setting.
