The 12-room Maison Tofani is an intimate four-pearl boutique in the historic center of Sorrento. There aren't any sea views from rooms, but surrounding cobblestone streets lead to nearby restaurants, shops, museums, and cathedrals. Past guests rave about excellent service and the free daily breakfast. There isn't an on-site restaurant though the wine cave offers tastings with cheese and charcuterie. Rooms are spotlessly clean and stylish; some have balconies and whirlpool tubs, though views can vary. If water views and access to the Mediterranean Sea are must haves, check out Maison La Minervetta but prepare for substantially higher prices.
Scene
Charming guesthouse with Italian frescoes and an orchid collection
Maison Tofani Sorrento is friendly and cozy with an atmosphere that makes both families and couples alike comfortable. There isn't an on-site restaurant, but daily breakfast included with the room goes beyond standard fare and includes cappuccino. The hotel has a pretty interior Neapolitan courtyard lined with orchids and tiled tables. In the_ salone_, look up at the fresco painted with cherubs on the ceiling and down at floral Moroccan style tiled floors. The wine cave is a unique touch, complete with bottles fitted inside the stone walls and a long wooden table for tastings.
Location
On Via Cesareo, a romantic side street in the middle of cobblestone Sorrento
Maison Tofani Sorrento is located on a pedestrian-friendly side street in the heart of Sorrento's historic district. Terranova Correale Museum and Sorrento Cathedral are less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The neighborhood is overflowing with souvenir shops and restaurants. For ferries to Capri and Ischia islands, the harbor is about a half-mile away. The Vallone dei Mulini parking area is a three-minute walk away, next to Piazza Tasso.
Rooms
Tasteful with decorative floor tiles and comfortable beds
There are 12 different rooms inside Maison Tofani Sorrento and each comes standard with a flat-screen TV, minibar, and air-conditioning. Some rooms have private balconies and noise is only an issue with the room above a neighboring bar. The decor is tastefully Italian with floral floor tiles and intricately painted blue and gold doors. There are royal blue pleather club chairs and settees along with fleur de lis bed runners and light wood desks. Most bathrooms have whirlpool style tubs and white bowl sinks. Bathrobes are a nice touch. Families can request additional beds for children.
Features
Free gourmet breakfast and a wine cave
In the summer months, the rooftop is transformed into a pretty spot for relaxing on sun loungers while admiring the city views of Sorrento (and a glimpse of the sea beyond). Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. There isn't an on-site restaurant, but daily breakfast gets excellent reviews and includes strong Italian style cappuccino. A unique and fun feature is the wine cave: stocked with bottles of Italian red and white wines. Tastings with cheese and charcuterie are regularly served to guests. In-room massages are available on request.
