Bottom Line

The 10-room Magi House Relais is a quiet and modern mid-range property with a central location in Sorrento. Split between Classic Rooms, Suites, and Apartments, rooms vary, though all have attractive decor, rainfall showers, and flat-screen TVs. Some add kitchenettes with microwaves, furnished terraces, and whirlpools. Those with mobility issues should be aware that there is no elevator on-site. Amenities here are limited to free Wi-Fi and breakfasts (free for some) with homemade cakes, served either on the lovely rooftop terrace or in a reading room with all-day tea and cookies. This is a great pick for travelers who plan on spending most of their time off-site, but those looking for more hotel amenities should consider Hotel Plaza, which has an infinity pool, rooftop bar, and fitness center.

Scene

Tiny, modern property with mostly white decor and relaxed atmosphere

Occupying a small building in central Sorrento, Magi House Relais is a charming property with just 10 rooms. A full renovation was completed in 2017, giving the space a fresh, modern feel with lots of white furnishings, potted plants, and classical artwork. There's no elevator here, so guests will have to use the marble staircase, leading to hallways with beautiful original blue patterned tiling. Rooms follow a similar design. Common areas are limited to a rooftop terrace with shaded seating, and an indoor tea and reading room. Overall, this is a lovely property for guests wanting easy access to all that Sorrento has to offer, but the lack of features may be a downside for some. For those people, the Hotel Continental has a large outdoor pool, Italian restaurant, and a rooftop terrace.

Location

In central Sorrento, a four-minute walk from Piazza Tasso

Magi House Relais set along a buzzing street lined with shops and restaurants in central Sorrento. Piazza Tasso, the town's main square, is a four-minute walk away and has lots of bars with outdoor terraces. There are numerous eateries and shops within easy walking distance. Sorrento's train station, for travel to Naples and the Amalfi Coast, is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The port, Marina Grande, and public beach are all within a 10-minute walk. Ferries from the Port of Sorrento provide transfers to Naples, Ischia, Positano, Capri, and Amalfi. Naples and its airport are just over an hour's drive away, while Rome can be reached in approximately three hours by car.

Rooms

Stylish, modern rooms; some with kitchenettes and terraces

The 10 fresh-looking units here include three Apartments, four Suites, and three Classic Rooms. All are done in a stylish, contemporary style that's mostly white and tan -- think light-wood furniture, light walls and tile floors, and classical-inspired artwork. Three of the units have outdoor terraces, including one with a whirlpool. Classic Rooms come with flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, tea- and coffee-making facilities, minibars, electronic safes, free Wi-Fi, tables, and hangers. Upgraded units have varying amenities, such as sofa beds and kitchenettes with stovetops and microwaves.Sleek, mosaic-tiled bathrooms have rainfall showers or shower/tub combos, plus hairdryers, quality toiletries, and bidets. Views are mediocre, but rooms are quiet. Note that there's no elevator here, so guests with mobility issues should request a room on the bottom floor.

Features

Buffet breakfast included in some rates

This tiny property doesn't have many features -- no full restaurant, bar, or wellness facilities -- but it does offer a substantial breakfast buffet. Included in some rates, the spread consists of homemade cakes and pastries, fruit, cold meats and cheeses, yogurt, and made-to-order eggs. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace in warmer months, or in the tea and reading room in colder times. The tea room has tables and some cookies and coffee during the day.Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
