Perched above the Valley of the Mills, the 65-room Hotel Plaza is an upscale, trendy property by Sorrento’s main square. For a small hotel, it squeezes in several attractive features including a chic rooftop terrace, a bar, and an infinity pool on the roof. A breakfast lounge, cafe, seven meeting rooms, and a modern gym are also on-site. Stylish rooms have colorful decor, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and furnished balconies in some. Coffeemakers, however, aren’t included, and rooms only have partial sea views. As an alternative, The Hotel Parco dei Principi, which also has a bigger pool and gym, offers spectacular views.
Scene
Modern, trendy decor and a rooftop pool
The six-floor Hotel Plaza has a cool, upbeat atmosphere and a central Sorrento location that attracts couples for the most part, but also families. The hotel’s entrance is flanked by ficus trees with greenery on the front patio. Inside, the lobby features wooden floors, neutral furnishings, and a circular, mod frame above the front desk. Hallways on every floor have different colorful themes. With live music at the bar, the stylish and lively sixth-floor terrace is perched above the forest-covered Valley of the Mills. It also houses a small infinity pool, surrounded by glass railings that invisibly drop into the Sorrento cityscape. Despite its diminutive size, the pool has waterfall features and whirlpool jets. Throughout the design-conscious property, an attention to art and style can be found in the use of fun colors, whimsical prints, and modern art and mirrors on the walls.
Location
In the city center of Sorrento, by the main square
The Hotel Plaza is in the heart of Sorrento, around the corner from the Piazza Torquato Tasso main square that’s surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes. Seaside restaurants and cafes at the Marina Grande are in walking distance. The Valley of the Mills, which is five minutes away on foot, can be seen from the hotel. It’s also a five-minute walk to the Basilica di Sant’Antonino and 10 minutes to the Museo Bottega della Tarsia Lignea. Walking to the ferries that go to Capri and Naples at the Sorrento Port takes 10 minutes. The Naples International Airport is about an hour away by car.

White-tiled bathrooms are clean and outfitted with heated towel racks, hairdryers, bidets, and showers or shower/tub combos. Windows or balconies face the streets, Valley of the Mills, and/or have partial sea views. Classic Rooms -- with two single beds or one double bed -- are the smallest option and definitely on the snug side. Comfort and Superior Rooms have two twin beds or one double bed and offer a touch more breathing space. Triple Rooms offer three single beds or one double and one single bed. Upgraded rooms have more space and loveseats. Interconnecting rooms can fit up to five people. All rooms offer safes, minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi.
