Bottom Line

The three-pearl Hotel Capri is a charming boutique, ideally located in the center of Sorrento. Several dining and shopping options are within close walking distance and the town's main square, Piazza Tasso, is just six minutes away on foot. The 39 rooms are modern, with bright interiors and amenities like flat-screen TVs, minibars, and free Wi-Fi. The downside to the rooms is that not all of them have balconies, and the rooms facing the road can be quite noisy. Apart from the free buffet breakfast and small drink selection at the lobby bar, the hotel doesn't offer dining facilities. Outside, there's a medium sized swimming pool and lovely citrus garden. As an alternative, the nearby Europa Palace Grand Hotel has stunning sea views and a full restaurant.

Scene

Boutique hotel with fresh and modern interiors and relaxing citrus garden

Featuring a charming Art-Nouveau design, Hotel Capri is one of the oldest hotels in the area. The overall color scheme throughout the hotel is white and gray, giving the hotel a modern and fresh feel. The lobby is elegant, sophisticated, and mostly white, including white wooden furniture, a grand piano, and the reception desk. Decor in the lobby is kept to a minimum, including a large black-and-white painting and big bunches of white flowers. The same design flows through to the breakfast area, complete with white-tiled floors, gray and white walls, gray high-back seating, glass-covered tables, low-hanging light fittings, and large windows overlooking the pool area. Outside, there's a lovely small citrus garden offering an ideal spot to relax on white wicker furniture. The swimming pool area also has a few surrounding sun loungers and parasols. Overall the atmosphere is pleasant, attracting mostly couples.

Location

Central location; six-minute walk from Piazza Tasso

Hotel Capri is located on a busy street opposite the L'Agruminato Park, in the center of Sorrento. Many dining and shopping options are within walking distance, and it's a short six-minute walk from the hotel to Piazza Tasso, the main square in Sorrento's old town. The location is ideal for visiting Sorrento, or to use as a starting point for excursions to Capri, Pompeii, or the Amalfi Coast. The nearest bus stop is two minutes on foot and it's a four-minute walk to the main Sorrento Train Station, where the Circumvesuviana train goes to Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Naples. It's a 17-minute walk to the main harbor, where ferries and hydrofoils depart for the islands of Capri and Ischia. The nearest airport is in Naples, which is over an hour away by car.

Rooms

Classic rooms with bright interiors, flat-screen TVs, and minibars

The 39 guest rooms at Hotel Capri are bright and classic, and like the rest of the hotel they feature a mostly white and gray color scheme. Interiors include yellow and blue patterned vinyl floors, light gray walls and curtains, and white furniture and bed linens. The Standard Rooms have either a large window or French balcony while the Superior Rooms add a small furnished balcony. The Junior Suite has a large terrace with sun loungers and a gazebo. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, tea- and- coffee-making facilities, desks, telephones, safes, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms include walk-in showers, hairdryers, and simple toiletries. Previous guests have complained about the rooms facing the street being quite noisy -- if possible, book a room overlooking the swimming pool. Cots or extra beds can be added for children under the age of two. All rooms are non-smoking.

Features

Buffet breakfast, lobby bar, outdoor swimming pool, and free Wi-Fi

Hotel Capri's best feature is its central location, as there are few on-site features available. There is a free continental buffet breakfast each morning, including hot and cold items; plus traditional homemade cakes. Apart from breakfast, the restaurant/bar only serves light snacks and beverages. There's also a small lobby bar serving a range of beverages. The outdoor swimming pool is surrounded by a small citrus garden, sun loungers, and parasols; plus free towels upon request. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and there is an internet-connected computer with printing and faxing facilities. Additional features include laundry service, babysitting services, tour desk, transfers (for a fee), and car/scooter hire. The hotel lacks any fitness or spa facilities, as well as on-site parking.
