Bottom Line
The 252-room Grand Hotel Vesuvio is a big, mid-range chain hotel a mile outside of Sorrento. The hotel offers beautiful views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. There’s a lovely garden with a wisteria covered pergola and a big outdoor swimming pool with a hot tub, snack bar, and children’s pool. The restaurant has panoramic views and a bar with terrace seating, but for an advertised four-star property, rooms are bland and furnishings are in need of an upgrade. The hotel has three meeting rooms and caters to organized groups. A more expensive, but highly reviewed option is the Best Western Hotel La Solaria with an extra-helpful staff and a fitness center.

The garden area at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio is lovely with purple flowers hanging from a pergola over a white porch swing. The large outdoor pool surrounded by a terracotta patterned deck is another relaxing outdoor space, complete with lounge chairs under umbrellas. The restaurant has white linens and panoramic views, while at the bar, there’s a white piano, clusters of green leather chairs, and tan couches circling a large exposed fireplace. Outside, black iron tables and chairs give guests a place to enjoy a cocktail while taking in the views of Mount Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.
