as well as a lively, cozy bar
Occasional free wine hours are held in the lobby

Not within walking distance of anything; guests
must have a car (or pay for expensive taxis) if they want to leave the property
Fitness center is tiny and cramped (expensive day passes are offered to a nearby gym)
No pool
No elevators to access second-floor rooms
An upper-mid-range boutique that's popular for corporate retreats and weddings, the Vintners Inn may be just off of a busy road (with nothing within walking distance), but once you're on the property it has a calm, sophisticated atmosphere. Fountains dot the flowering grounds, and a large number of the 44 rooms overlook the on-site vineyard -- as does the acclaimed restaurant's dining room, which is frequented by locals, hotel guests, and tourists staying at other area hotels. Rooms are spacious, with up-to-date technology, but guests should note that there are no elevators to access the second floor. Visitors seeking larger facilities (the gym at Vintners is tiny) and/or a pool should consider nearby options like Flamingo Conference Resort or FountainGrove Inn, but at the cost of losing the Vintners Inn's cozier vibe.
Scene
A Tuscan theme pervades this boutique property, which holds various conferences and wedding parties.
A 44-room property on its own vineyard, the
Vintners Inn sits just off of a relatively unattractive road in the Santa Rosa area. But, although the grounds may not be particularly expansive, they are attractive and have a straight-out-of-Tuscany look with pretty fountains, vine-covered stucco buildings, and views of the vineyard. Neighboring Healdsburg and St. Helena have more boutique hotel options, but Santa Rosa does not so the Vintners Inn stands out. While it also welcomes plenty of corporate events and conferences, it lacks the corporate vibe (and extensive amenities) of nearby hotels like the Flamingo Conference Resort.Vintners Inn also attracts middle-aged couples on weekends away; the
fine-dining restaurant, pretty grounds dotted with fountains, and lovely rooms
-- many with fireplaces -- add to the romantic vibe. In fact, all rooms have
California King beds, so it’s not the best pick for families in the area. (And kids would also likely be disappointed by the lack of a pool.)
Location
A few minutes north of Santa Rosa, set on its own vineyard
The Vintners Inn is located on a quiet street right off scenic Highway 101. The surrounding area is quite unattractive, with a large power plant nearby, but once you enter the property you leave everything behind and find yourself in a peaceful place, with fountains, a vineyard, and old-world charm. There’s nothing within walking distance, but a short drive will take you to world-class wineries, walking and hiking trails, golf courses, and quaint villages such as Healdsburg, which is less than a 15-minute drive from the property. The nearest big town is Santa Rosa, which might not be the prettiest city in Sonoma Valley, but it is the largest and most convenient if you are planning a trip that does not only involve wine-tasting. The downtown area is full of department stores, restaurants, bars, hotels, and office buildings, making it the only real town in the area. It’s also the most kid-friendly place in the region, with an amusement park and interesting children's activities. It may lack the charm of smaller towns like Healdsburg or St. Helena, but Santa Rosa offers easy access to some of the most popular wine-tasting destinations, and is conveniently located equidistant from the San Francisco and Oakland airports.- 1.5-hour drive to San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport
Rooms
Spacious rooms have cozy features like wood-beamed ceilings and balconies.
The 44 rooms here feature attractive decor in shades of blues and beige; picture throw pillows, complementary artwork, and pretty mirrors. Some furniture (and the bathroom wallpaper) feels a bit generic, but overall these feel cozy and warm, and many rooms have features like wood-beamed ceilings, electric fireplaces, and/or balconies overlooking the vineyard. All rooms come with massive California
King beds (so families may want to look elsewhere), large flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, free Wi-Fi, minibars (although offerings are slim), safes, and robes.
Features
Features are limited, but the restaurant is a highlight.
Aside from the vineyard, where there’s a scenic
running path and against which many weddings take place, the main feature here
is the gourmet John Ash restaurant. It's known for its impressive wine list (displayed on personal iPads), which includes the on-site vineyard's varieties, as well as
numerous local Sonoma wines. Lunch and dinner offerings range from entrees like steak with local vegetables (some grown on-site) to inventive pastas. The restaurant is attractive and large, with high
ceilings in the main dining room and a glassed-in patio overlooking the vineyard. Small tables and numerous leather bar seats characterize the John Ash bar, which attracts guests, locals, and tourists visiting the area. Breakfast
is served in a room off the lobby. Free coffee and tea can be found in the
various room buildings in the mornings.Additional features are relatively few, although there is a bocce court, spa room, running trail, hot tub,
and tiny on-site fitness center. Guests can opt to purchase day passes to the
large local gym just a five-minute drive away, but these are expensive.Vintners Inn is home to a large events center,
which can be rented out for meetings and weddings, as well. Weddings also take place
under gazebos on the grounds, and there are numerous meeting rooms on-site.
