Bottom Line

Sonoma's intimate Cottage Inn & Spa has only nine rooms, giving it the feel of an intimate bed and breakfast. Only the Fountain View Cottage has TV, which may be a deal-breaker for some, but all rooms and suites have free Wi-Fi, and some have extra features such as kitchens and hot tubs. A free breakfast is delivered to rooms every morning, but there's no on-site restaurant. That said, the inn's a block from Sonoma's town square, meaning there's plenty of places to eat nearby. The spa offers deep tissue and Swedish aromatherapy massages.

Scene

Small inn with a mixture of Spanish and Asian design elements

This small inn is housed in an old Spanish-style adobe property
painted in white. Common areas also incorporate some Southeast Asia-inspired design
elements, including bamboo-lined walls, Eastern religious statuary, and rock
gardens. At the center of the hotel is a patio garden with tables, chairs, and lounge chairs, as well as a pretty mosaic fountain. There’s not much in the way of a lobby -- there's just a small office with a computer. With neither a business center nor meeting rooms, the inn is aimed at leisure travelers.

Location

Central Sonoma location near other hotels and restaurants

The inn is on a tree-lined, residential section of downtown Sonoma near other hotels. It's a couple of blocks from Sonoma Plaza, and is within walking distance of plenty of shops, restaurants, and cafes. The Sonoma Bike Path runs right by the hotel. Santa Rosa is about a 45-minute drive, and the Sonoma County Airport is about a 50-minute drive.

Rooms

Homey, romantic rooms -- all but one are TV-free

Rooms at the Cottage Inn & Spa come with chocolates and fresh flower arrangements, which add a special touch to an already romantic setting. They're big and homey, if not quite luxurious, with slightly hodge-podge furniture and a few Spanish-Colonial decor accents (such as the terra-cotta tile floors). There are nine rooms and suites, but only the Fountain View Cottage comes with television. Some rooms have kitchens, whirlpool tubs, or gas fireplaces. All have air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi. Candles and bathrobes are provided, and a free continental breakfast is delivered to each room every morning. Many rooms have their own patios and multiple large windows. The hotel's location on a quiet road means that street noise is kept to a minimum.

Features

Spa with massage and body treatments, and a central fire pit

The Cottage Inn & Spa's intimate spa is the main feature here. Deep tissue and Swedish aromatherapy massages are offered, as are reflexology, reiki, and body wraps. A central fire pit, adjacent to the spa, is lined with four large, throne-like couches, and has its own private rock-garden.
