Stone and wood materials, monastic architectural elements, and antique embellishments blend with modern accents for a striking style. Good food in the restaurants -- include free breakfast -- a lovely pool with a bar, gym and sauna, and a game room for kids make it easy to spend a day on the property. The 75 rooms have tranquil decor, furnished outdoor spaces, and flat-screen TVs, plus options for shared or private pools. Guests with mobility issues struggle with the hilly grounds, many stairs, and steep path to the beach. Scene

A relaxing hotel with a beautiful blend of modern and historic elements

Atrium Hotel is a beautiful hotel where guests -- primarily couples -- enjoy pretty surroundings in a relaxing atmosphere. The grounds are artfully designed by the owner-architects. Stone buildings with arched doorways and simple, square windows have a monastic feel. Walkways are also paved with stone, but the look is softened by greenery and flowers in every available nook. Buildings descend a steep hillside, which affords stunning ocean views from everywhere on the property. However, the hotel is difficult to navigate for those with mobility issues, and some guests find the series of elevators to reach upper levels to be inconvenient.

Interiors have an Old-World style, incorporating a lot of stone and wood, plus a lovely blend of antique and modern choices in furnishings and embellishments. The lobby’s modern tile floor and sleek green glass on the reception desk contrast historic elements like stone pillars, iron wall sconces, clay pots, and antique candelabras. Overall, the design is a lovely combination of the modern and historic, making for interesting spaces throughout the hotel.

Location

On the hillside above Agia Paraskevi Beach in southern Skiathos, an eight-minute walk from Platanias

Atrium Hotel is near the southern shore of Skiathos, a Greek island just off the mainland in the Aegean Sea. The beautiful beach of Agia Paraskevi is a few minutes’ walk down the hill, though the path is steep and difficult for some. A longer route down the road is about a 10-minute walk. It is an eight-minute walk into the small town of Platanias, where there are a few restaurants but little else. Five minutes down the hill from the hotel is a public bus stop, with service into the town of Skiathos, otherwise it is a 20-minute drive. Skiathos offers many restaurants and bars, sea excursions, historic sites and museums, and shops. The port at Skiathos is a 20-minute drive from the hotel, and Skiathos Airport is a 30-minute drive away.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with warm, relaxing decor, plus options for two-story suites and private pools

Comfortable, inviting rooms offer guests a lovely space to rest. Whitewashed walls, wood floors (and sometimes ceilings), and soft colors create a warm, relaxing atmosphere. Furnishings are not luxurious or high-end, but they have an appealing style. Standard rooms can accommodate two people in a double bed or two twins, while other rooms may add sofa beds, a crib, or extra twins for up to five people. Many furnished balconies have gorgeous ocean views. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and free safe, but no kettles. Good-sized bathrooms have a bidet and shower/tub combo behind a glass partition. A hairdryer and free toiletries are provided.

Upgraded rooms include options like a private garden with a whirlpool, a shared infinity pool, or a private pool. Rooms that include a private pool or whirlpool also come with lounge chairs, pool towels, robes, slippers, and a welcome basket of fruit and wine. For larger families, Junior Suites can be paired with a connecting double room, and the Maisonettes with private pools include a loft with beds for up to three children.

Features

A breakfast and dinner restaurant, a la carte taverna, outdoor pool, and game room

Entertainment is limited, but the basics are done well at this hotel. A buffet restaurant serves a good breakfast and dinner in a pleasant atmosphere. The free breakfast is varied and plentiful, while dinner includes Greek specialties and some Mediterranean dishes. A casual taverna serves a la carte lunches in a cozy indoor space or on a beautiful terrace under a vine-drenched pergola. A half-board meal plan is available.

The pool is a lovely spot, on a combination wood and terra-cotta deck. There are plenty of loungers, either under white linen umbrellas or shaded under a roof. It's near the top of the hotel, so guests on lower floors are not close, but it has a view of the ocean. Guests note that the pool bar can get quite busy, but the service is friendly. A tiny children’s pool is in a different area with a couple of loungers for parents.

A small fitness room has a few cardio and weight-training machines crowded together. The space includes a sauna and shower. A game room offers a couple of billiards tables, cards tables, and a TV lounge. A separate room has ping-pong tables and a fun selection of toys for younger children. Although Wi-Fi is free everywhere on the property, the connection is unreliable at times.
